Is he Santa Claus? Edmund Gwen plays his excellent roll as Kris Kringle, he just radiate belief in mankind in an excellent way. He combines in his roll 2 impossible things together; passion & Rational logic in a way witch will be hard to surpass.
Doris Walker (Maureen O'Hara) the divorced mother of Susan Walker (Natalie Wood) who raises her daughter based upon her own personal experiences in life (She's my responsible, I must bring her up as I see fit). Doris obviously had great belief in dreams in her early life which tumbled down after her divorce and she didn't want Susan to be hurt in any such way, as for result she teaches Susan the practical way (ferry tale's are silly) completely ignoring her childhood rights.
Fred Gaily (John Payne) a lawyer who lives in the same building as Doris & Susan Walker has an eye on Doris and he also likes her daughter Susan, while watching the Thanksgiving parade with Susan he meets Doris.
Prior while Doris Walker is organizing the Thanksgiving Day Parade for her employer Macy she meets Kris Kringle who noticed at his inspections of the Christmas happening that the Santa Claus in the parade is completely drunk and brings her to the attention of that. Not being able to find a substitute at such short notice she asks Kris Kringle; could you be Santa Claus, had you had any experience?
This way he becomes an unusual employee of Macy's and so later meets Doris daughter Susan and the lawyer Fred Gaily, together with Fred he finds it his task to change Doris and Susan's view on life.
The movie shows perfectly that small details in human behavior, good or bad, can have great effect on live also that being honest and success can go together. Very touching movie with flawless acting and a very good story.
One strange thing when in Macy's store a Dutch girl meets Kris Kringle they sing a Dutch Sinterklaas song, Sinterklaas and Santa Claus are 2 different persons(Sinterklaas is celebrated at 5 December and Santa Claus
well you now) and they are, just like Macy's and Gimble's, competitors to each other. Truly deserves the 3 Oscar's it won, go see it and see it again (and again
)!
