I relate to this movie in many forms. The expectation from parents, finding yourself and your passion and not conforming to the world, are all key themes that I feel on a personal level. It feels as though I was meant to see this film. I am a poet myself, I have written over 200 poems. I struggle with mental health, (self harming habits and desires) and when I say this movie speaks to my soul, I mean it. I am writing a book about my experience with parents, and how young people such as in this film can mend the broken souls in these relationships. I used this quote from this film in one of my pages:
"Have you ever told your father what you just told me, about your passion for acting?
I can't.
Why not?
I can't talk to him this way.
Then you are acting for him, too. You're playing the role of the dutiful son. I know this sounds impossible but you have to talk to him. Show him who you are and what your heart is.
Isn't there an easier way?
No.
I'm trapped.
No, you are not. "
I think that speaks for itself, of the power it holds. I am thankful for this film.
