Trial by Fire (2023)
Close to Perfection, Great Production and Document of a Tragedy.
This was almost perfect when it comes to portraying a serious events which caused people of diverse age and backgrounds to lose life and families to lose their loved ones. There is an ocean of emotions involved and that surely takes a huge amount of research for the production team to show to the audience in a justified way. On this level it is a success. I personally being an audience who was not aware of this tragedy , can say I was made aware, moved, bought to tears and lived the events as much as possible after almost 25 years of its happening.
That said and not going into plot details, would like to add that the last 7th episode is one of the best made depiction of real events on screen. From a film making point of view, it gives pride that Indian film making has this kind of potential currently. It is hard to believe in the episode that it is a shot and not a newsreel. The detailing , acting, camera work leaves nothing left to imagination, and doesn't smell of any fabrication that separates life and reel. Kudos.
The acting by the leads , specially the female lead was just awesome. Some of the moments reminded me of famous trial based movies of the past both Hollywood and Bollywood. Her delivery was excellent.
All said, give it a watch, as a piece of awareness, a social responsibility to know the culprits , and a tribute to the disastrous event.
Khakee: The Bihar Chapter (2022)
Hands down one of the best ever Cop vs Criminal story.
Just finished watching this , this kind of production comes out very rarely. It's simply excellent. The acting of the cop , the important villain , the emotion , the story - everything is absolutely amazing. Don't want to write anything more but I think written enough to request you to watch this. This will go down as one of Netflix India's best series. No matter what comes in the next installment , this one will be remembered.
And special mention for the role of Chandan Mahato, the character development is unparalleled. So set some good 6-7 hours aside , have your fav drink and enjoy this fine creation.
Jatugriha (2022)
Very Mediocre Production, like a B-Grade Movie
I went to watch this based on initial ratings, though just 1 show was being played at the theatre.
The movie can be categorised as a horror suspense film and fails to achieve on both fronts mostly. At most there was a few jump scares , thats it. What drags it even down, was the substandard acting of the leads (not Parambrata). I am not sure whether they are even actors after watching the performance. Not expecting anything out of the ordinary here, but it was far away from mediocre acting even. By halftime i did felt like returning home and finding something to watch on OTT instead. Most of the viewers (around 10-12 people in the theatre) already resorted to their phones.
Throughout the film it felt like someone wanted to make a film without spending money. As for the story, it was cheesy to describe best. The protagonist sees a ghost and at the very next second resorts to romance with the actress. There is a song too. At point when a very sad news is being revealed, there is romantic background music. The movie is edited in a way, the soundtrack like blows your ear, there is not volume synchronisation between dialogues and songs. Thats just a few things to say.
Anyways, don't bother watching it spending money. At a time when so many quality bengali films are being released, this was a surprise. What surprises me the most is how a talented actor like Parambrata does a ludicrous movie like this. Skip it.
