Suspect (2022)
Almost unwatchable
Well, that was absolutely appalling. I had to sit through all episodes because the rest of the family enjoyed it but I can't see why. By the fifth or so episode I had lost complete interest and I think I fell asleep on a few of the final episodes so I guess this isn't the most accurate review. But still, please don't spend your time watching this. Pretty much every aspect of the series was rubbish although I thought the storyline had some substance to it and could've been developed into a fairly decent series. It just didn't really make sense - I'm fine with characters doing unusual things that wouldn't be done in the real world but surely there's some sort of line.
Compulsion (2022)
Almost good, but actually just rubbish.
As the title says, it actually wasn't too bad. I'd never seen any advertising or mention of this show until I randomly stumbled across it. The best way to describe it is "okay". I'll admit: there's plot holes and some weirdly unusual scenes where I wonder what a particular character is doing. But, it takes on a unique issue - gambling. Considering that topic isn't widely represented in TV I thought the writers took it on quite well. And, the ending was not the best: it was drawn out and didn't really flow or make sense. Bit of a shame as I thought the ending might redeem the previous episodes. I don't know whether its worth watching - give the first episode a go to see if you like it and go from there.
The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe (2022)
Worth watching
Do you know what - that was pretty good. After watching a few rubbish dramas recently, this was a nice breath of fresh air. It was enjoyable, good acting, good story. I'm still baffled by how they managed to get away with it for years but I guess that's the thrill of it. There's also elements of comedy here and there which work as a break to the gripping and dark plot. I'll admit it's not amazing, you won't be on the edge of your seat at every minute: there are periods when it's gets slow and dry. But for the most part I had a good time watching it and even if it wasn't a true story I think it would still be worth it.
Our House (2022)
What a shame. So much potential just wasted.
I've just finished the final episode, and well, I thought I'd be writing a decent review but no. What an earth was that ending. I understand that there has to be plot twists and unexpected endings but even a boring ending would be better than that.
I really liked the idea at the start: it was mysterious and thought provoking - I wanted to keep watching. Albeit, there was a clear absence of common sense, where there are several instances of me questioning the actions of a character. But that doesn't really bother me too much.
It frustrates me that this could have been a whole lot better, but know I'll remember this show as rubbish and not worth watching - which doesn't really sum it up as I genuinely thought (from the first few episodes) that this is a decent thriller.
The ending kept playing out (which was too long anyway) and it kept getting worse. It simply didn't make any sense.
You will read reviews that recommend this but I simply can't. I'd have preferred to not know the ending at all. I've watched shows and films with bad endings and didn't really mind, but this very much irritated me. It was incredibly unsatisfying and ruined my perceptions of each character.
The Holiday (2021)
Painfully awful
Finished the first episode, and well - it's rubbish. The best part was when it ended. I guess the idea is alright (hence why this isn't one star) but every single character was just so annoying. That means I have no interest in what happens in future episodes. If you're reading this, please, please, please go and do something else than watch this show. There's hundreds of better things to watch than this. It's also painfully slow and depressing - it's meant to be a happy friend reunion but every scene makes me cringe because there's an argument or something else that's just sad and depressing. I'd rather sit and watch paint dry than spend time with those people.
Nope (2022)
Not good, but not bad.
Honestly, its just a bit weird. I guess it is sci-fi but when I found it quite funny watching some balloon, cape, bird, jelly fish, alien spaceship appeared from a cloud. It dragged on a bit during the middle - it almost felt like they could have told the entire story in 10 minutes, and well, I think Peele knew that. There are several instances of side-characters and plots that turned out in a jumbled mess really. Still, I kind of enjoyed it, and the actors (Keke and Daniel in particular) were great and definitely made up for some of the boring parts. Maybe if there's nothing else you want to watch give it a go, but there's better ways to spend your time, and money.
