Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Stunning Visuals
I watched this movie on 3D screen. The visuals and under water componets of it were stunning. James Cameron does a great job. It makes you feel like you should live in Pandora for a while at least.
The starts a few years after the invasion attempt. The sky people are looking for a place to settle instead of a mine. They are building their own civilization in Pandora. They create new avatars like the last time so that they can reach the island where the lead actor stays. Wheter they catch hold of them or not is the story.
The movie seemed long on cards. I was shocked to see that the movie was over 3 hours. But in reality, it didn't seem too long. James Cameron does a great job in making that seem short by taking us into the world and giving us a great experience.
For a while, I felt like we humans are no good. We just ruin all the beautiful things given to us for our greedy needs. The director did make it more clear in a scened where the humans hunt animals for no good. After all, we just want our lives to last longer. We don't care about the other lives on the planet. In one particular scene, there would be a long expanation on how they hunt. I was totally disgusted seeing that.
The movie moves at a good pace and makes us feel like we are a part of it. I really liked the portions that showed the relationsips between humans and the animals. All that was fantastic.
The climax was a little dissapointing though. Expected great things to happen. But they didn't. At the end, the crew just dissappears and is seen no where.
All in all, one can watch the movie just for the visuals. One more pearl from the cameras of James Cameroon.
Buffoon (2022)
Not up to the mark
If you're planning to watch this movie, I would request you to wait and think about it another time. I expected a lot more from the movie.
The movie starts like a political satire and ends in a way that would leave you confused. The story revolves around an induvidual who steps out of a political party in power to start his own. An attempt to oppress the induvidual ( who also owns a cocaine mafia ) is the gist of the story.
The act performed by the stage artists were great. Vaibhav really mingles with the gang. Apart from that, nothing in the movie is appealing. The heroine part and the Srilankan tamil issues looked out of place. I must say that they could have given both these attributes more back story and screenspace. The way the story was narrated was confusing and was incomplete right from the begining. Well, not every gansta movie is like KGF but one fails to see the heriosm of anyone in this movie.
The climax of this movie is the worst part of the movie. Director should have come up with a better plot.
Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu (2022)
A great experience but clumsy finish
VTK, a movie that I wanted to see for a very long time. Halied as a comeback movie for both STR and GVM.
I liked how STR adapted himself to the role. The man has shown some good acting skills. Being devoid of the usual STR punch dialogues is a great difference. Plays the role of a commoner. Although the direction of the movie is predictable, the screen play is gripping.
The climax of this movie is much faster than the entire movie. The change in pace is super evident and fails to impress. Leaving the story wich such an end, fails to give closure and leaves the viewers with a lot of questions. Hopefully part 2 would shed some light.
Kudos to STR and the other actors who played their roles well.
Criminal Justice: Adhura Sach (2022)
Madhav Mishra returns.
I have been a fan of the criminal justice series since I saw the first season. I see a lot of comments complaining about the series releasing one episode per week. I think that was good. The series usually finishes with in 8 episodes. Releasing them at a regular interval helped building the suspense.
The story doesn't dissapoint this time as well. Same template as the other two. A crime happens and an innocent guy gets imprissioned because of situational evidence. Madhav Mishra saves the day. The story had all elements of suprise and thrill. Both Madhav and the PP carried their role very well.
I was a little dissapointed by the fact that the PP's side story ( Rich father and the privilege) was left without a closure. I feel the series could have had more time for such closures.
Otherwise a great season. Waiting for the next one.
Saakini Daakini (2022)
Yet another girl power movie
The movie is a girl power action comedy. Two women from different backgrounds meet at a police training. They resolve their differences and become good friends. They solve a kidnap case like they are james bond. I was under an impression that Indian cinema is slowly distancing itself from one man hitting 100 people. But this one is one woman hiyying 100s of people. A typical action movie with no big surprises.
The first half od the movie is funny and breezes through the eye. The second part is actually the heavy weight. The stunt sequences in the second half were great. Showing all other police officials in a bad light was unwarranted. The reason for the kidnap was novel and was interesting. They could have added more power to villain. That might have helped. The climax lacked that drama.
All in all, we can watch the movie once. Not more than that.
Nna Thaan Case Kodu (2022)
A different court room drama with a strong message.
I always feel getting a courtroom drama right is very difficult. Both sides should have compelling arguments and the protagonist should win at the last moment. This one is so different. Starts with so much disbelief vested in the hero's story. The arguments and the story were spot-on.
Kunchako Bobab has lived his character's life on screen. His acting looks so natural. I loved how they tried to imbibe some modern thoughts in the movie showing a casual relationship between Bobab and the female lead.
There are many positives to the movie. I can keep writing about those. Some notable negatives for me were the petrol price that keeps showing up and showing everyone as a drug abuser. While the former looks like a jibe the director takes against the central government, the latter makes no sense to me. Director could have used other means to question the credibility of the witness.
That being said, the movie is a great one to watch. Cool and feel good.
Cobra (2022)
Great makeup but flunked in every other aspect.
Well, when I watched the trailer of this movie, I was super excited. Specially when they said the killer was using math to kill. The joker images added to the expectations. The movie doesn't meet all the buzz created.
Sub standard storyline and screenplay. I cannot understand why that character of Irfan pathan was introduced in the movie. Doesn't make sense at all. The screen play is very confusing. Many unbelievable components. Some of them are literally laughable. Sometimes director think anything in this world can be hacked and hackers have some super power. This movie is one of that kind. It's great to hear the names of ML algorithms and mathematical theories but that is just not enough.
Vikram's acting was the only good aspect of this movie. If we remove that, my rating would gone down considerably. The man needs to choose better scripts.
Gargi (2022)
A movie on violence against kids with no sexually explicit scenes
Gargi is a story of a lower-middle-class household that faces issues because of one fault. A heroine-centric movie and no big faces could be seen except the heroine.
Everyone played their part very well. A court drama with several sentimental scenes all across the movie. The reaction of every party involved is spot on. The script succeeds in keeping us bound to our seats. It is very hard to guess the false protagonist in the movie.
Typically, a female-centered movie talks a lot about feminism and shows female leads as rough and tough. This one doesn't do that. Feminism here is the one that every woman needs. The lead in this movie is more life-like and relatable. The movie wanted to point out realities.
Overall, a good attempt by the director.
Diary (2022)
A super natural movie with a different plot
A good movie with nice twists.
The movie starts with ideal elements for a fantastic thriller plot. Travels like a horror movie and ends like a sentimental one.
Most of the movie happens in a bus and is related to a hairpin bend on the Ooty hills. Starts like a typical thriller with a death scene at the beginning. Several murder incidents happen on the same day. The director does a great job of building up things and deviates your attention from the main component of the movie.
There was a time when I was sitting confused. I didn't know how this movie is going to travel. I'm usually a person who is successful at guessing things. I was only able to realize what is happening like 20 minutes before the ending. Director manages to keep you thinking.
It might not be a must-watch movie but surely an enjoyable one. The budget constraints are showing up in some visuals. Arulnithi carries himself very well. He is becoming an impressive actor. I am starting like his scripts. The man has a great sense of what good writing is.
Overall, worth every minute of your time. If you're scared of horror movies (like me), don't worry. This one is not very scary.
