When the Wind Blows (1986)
Moving.
I've watched "When the wind blows" probably about 3 times in my life. And with recent events I thought I'd give it another watch.
As I'm originally from the West Country of England - the setting strikes a chord with me instantly. I remember rolling fields and little cottages where I grew up, filled with grandparents who lived through the Blitz. The two main characters reminded me of who could be any neighbour of mine when I was young.
I won't go into too much detail, but we see their journey unravel on what would happen if they were loosely prepared for a nuke to go off to their general deterioration with radiation sickness.
Powerful and hard to stomach in some instances.
The Island (2005)
Good movie
It's a fun concept and movie in general. A great cast and some amazing visual effects for the time it was released.
Can feel a little bit unrealistic at times (as some most action / sci fi movies) - and some questionable choices about what would actually happen with some real chases. That being said, the downfalls are overcome by the acting quality and general vibe of the movie.
I think it could've felt a little more realistic, some big plot holes that never really go answered but if you're looking to be transported into a dystopian future where there's action, love and a little bit of violence then this is probably a good movie to watch.
The Thing (2011)
Entertaining
Different enough from the original that it feels pretty unique, and takes a bit of a different spin on a good story.
Glad they cast M E. W as the lead as she's just a great actress, and for me, this and Cloverfield Lane are some of her best performances in my opinion.
Graphics feel a little dated now, but there was only really one instance where it felt a little lower budget.
Only removing a few stars because I think there could have been a little more tension, and I wanted a more solid ending that what was offered.
A worthwhile watch which I wish kept me more on my toes, but delivered in great monster design and enough nods to the original without being a copy.
