Bound to Vengeance (2015)
Could have been so great.
I was thoroughly enjoying this film. Was some of it a little far-fetched? Yes. That wasn't my gripe with this film.
I absolutely can not stand a film that leaves the viewers with more questions than answers.
I'm sure that the director and/or screenwriter believes that ending a film in a vague manner will cement their visionary masterpiece... I don't believe that to be the reality of their infuriating choice. Does it result in a discussion amongst the viewers, one that will be discussed for decades to come? Very rarely. More often than not, the viewer will be infuriated, like myself. I watch a movie to be told a story... not to formulate my own ending, from the scraps that I am left with. I often ask myself, was this a brilliant creative choice, or was the screenwriter unable to write an ending that is better than a steaming pile a vague manure? I cannot express how frustrated I am after watching this film. It was so promising. I have rated this with five stars, and not the two stars that I wanted to... because it was good, up until important information was withheld from me. Had the movie actually had a comprehendible ending, I would have rated this with at least eight stars. If I could summarize my review, I would simply insert vulgar expletives, with a warning not to invest your time into this miserable film.
The Wrong Daughter (2018)
Some people may rate this film highly... One of the many mysteries of the universe.
This movie was awfully bad. It isn't the worst movie. However, it is far from a decent movie. What I have gathered, from other reviews, it appears to be based on a true story. I don't know the events that this movie was based upon, but I assume that it is loosely based on said events. It was underwhelming, and rather hard to believe.
The acting: 3/10. I am far from an actor. However, I believe that I have potential to reach the height of acting portrayed in this film.
The plot: 5/10 It isn't a terrible plot, and with a different cast and production team, it could have been okay.
Some people have rated this film with 8 stars... those are people I hope will never plague my day-to-day life. I don't know what could be worse ; watching this film again, or befriending a person that rated this film above six stars. This film has a higher rating than it deserves, in my opinion. Often, many poor reviews stem from a bandwagon of single celled organisms, that dishonestly rate films based on a dishonest popular opinion... I don't do that ; this film is legitimately terrible.
Although, I have seen worse, and it gets four stars for not being the worst film that I have endured.
A Cure for Wellness (2016)
It was entertaining
Though I may have rated it with a mere six stars, I did thoroughly enjoy this film, excluding the ending. I was fixated on the screen the entire time, and it wasn't quite as predictable as other films of this nature. However, the ending felt rushed. I expected some magnificent plot twist... a plot twist that would blow my mind, but that simply didn't happen. The ending screamed of a mediocre film produced in the late 90's. If it weren't for the last twenty minutes being so BLAH, then I would have rated this film with at least eight stars. This film felt so close to being a future classic, yet so far away. I have mixed emotions in regards to the quality of this film, and that is why I haven't rated it lesser than six stars. I rate films honestly, and my animosity towards the ending hasn't caused me to give it an unfair rating. I often see people rate films with a one star rating, with less reasoning, and that is awful behaviour. I would still recommend this film, though I wouldn't rant and rave about it being top-notch.
Pieces of Her (2022)
I wasn't immediately hooked, but I'm glad that I endured the first 2 episodes.
As mentioned in the headline of my review, I wasn't immediately hooked. The first episode had an intense scene, that caught my attention. However, it settled down after this scene. It potentially settled a little too much following said scene, and as a result, it almost lost my attention. I am intentionally being vague, as I do not want this to be considered a spoiler. I endured through this, and I am glad that I did. This isn't a masterpiece. But, I would definitely consider this to be an enjoyable viewing experience. Do I wish that certain scenes were different? Definitely. Would I watch it again? Perhaps. You decide for yourself, and give it an honest rating.
Pain Hustlers (2023)
*insignificant spoiler* Read the negative reviews and judge for yourself whether they are credible or not.
I was perplexed as to why the rating was so low for this film... Until I scrolled down. The first bad review was in reference to an incident at the beginning of the film. The daughter accidentally created a minor forest fire, and instead of her mother being riddled with guilt, she opposed her daughters expulsion. Outside of said meeting, she expressed her disapproval for her daughters actions. However, said reviewer somehow perceived this minor scene to be some sort of promotional piece for arson, and somehow it equates to the movie being of poor quality. Society is so irrational nowadays. I do not know if the poor reviews gain any further credibility, as this was enough clarity. If you are sane, watch this movie, and potentially enjoy it. I'm not saying that this movie is beloved by everybody. But critique it rationally.
Carrie (2013)
Not a pseudo-intellectual take, nor is this a thesis. Just a simple review with mild spoliers
Carrie is, and has always been one of my favourite stories. An individual suffering from abuse at home, unpopularity at school, vengeful rage, and an added twist of telekinetic powers, is something that hooks my attention. I don't need to delve into a pseudo-intellectual take on why this is or is not a great film. I'm not writing a thesis, nor am I attempting to portray myself as sophisticated... I'm merely suggesting that you watch this film. I prefer the original Carrie film, though pessimism doesn't cloud my ability to enjoy a quality remake. It's as though it has become popular to project negativity disproportionately towards something that one merely mildly dislikes. Carrie is a fantastic film, in my opinion, and I would recommend it to anybody whom will listen.
Nanny Dearest (2023)
Terribly good.
I wouldn't claim this movie to be fantastic, and it most definitely will never be considered a classic... However, I did I enjoy it. Yes, the acting was hilarious. It wasn't dull though, and for that, I was able to enjoy the plot. It reminds me of a film that would have been broadcasted at 3am, on public television, prior to the Internet providing alternative options for me to watch. It was rather nostalgic to endure this amazingly awful film in the early hours of the morning. I'm hesitant to recommend this film to anybody, though I know a portion of society would enjoy this film, as did I.
To summarise my review... Awful acting, okay plot, amazing nostalgia.
