Fear the Walking Dead: King County (2023)
A somewhat Solid enough entry, confusing, but solid.
(I am by no means a critic, I just like shows.)
Season 8 has been the prime example for the terrible, Lazy and Dull writing that Chamberliss and Goldberg can't seem to break free from.
But I think that this episode 'King County' was a solid enough edition among the sludge that has been the last season.
I was invested in this episode and I do truly believe it was the highlight of the entire season, but the episode just kinda seemed irrelevent and confusing.
For starters, the writers don't even know what to do with Morgan. Is he on padres side... Oh well hes actually faking it... They can't seem to make up their mind and clearly direct what Morgan is meant to be feeling this season. So off to a bad start.
But this episode he goes back to King County, where he is followed by Grace with Moe in tow, as well as being stalked by Sherry, Dwight and Padre. The whole episode has an interesting premise and it gets incredibly tense with Padre first shows up.
The music immediately changes tone and the whole episode becomes a game of cat and mouse, while also Morgan trying to put Duane to rest, while also uncovering the mystery of what Morgan did during his time at King County.
First Major gripe I have with this episode, is that Morgan just WALKED alllll the way to King County? Like I get that he literally Walked to Texas in the first place, but you're telling me that he walked all the way back to Atlanta?
But I did like the nod back to the comics with Duane being left inside a house as a walker, and I did also really enjoy the scene inside the house when they find out Duane isn't there anymore.
A lot of stuff to like, but a very hit or miss in terms of what it wanted to accomplish.
Overall, far from perfect, but deffinetly the highlight of the season.
Heres to hoping that the rest of the season saves itself.
Red vs. Blue: The End (2015)
"In the End, you just gotta have faith."
Red vs Blue peaked in the early 2000s and 2010s especially. Burnie (The Creator of RVB) stepped off the show after spearheading the first 10 seasons (200 episodes). Miles Luna picked up the reigns for seasons 11-13, Scepticism was high, would Miles know how to write these characters? Would it be good at all?
My My, how our faith has been rewarded, and those who had little of it put to shame. In the season 13 finale, Miles managed to pull off the impossible, an episode that surpassed every episode from Burnie's run. An episode that not only rounded off a 3 year long series arc, but managed to develop so many of its characters!
The End, the greatest episode of RVB.
Fear the Walking Dead: The Code (2018)
Filler, Slow, But fun.
Clearly filler, Very very slow. But even still...
Ok I enjoyed this one, I thought the interactions were nice and it plays with a strange concept. Plus I like the fact that Morgan wants to ditch these boring ass characters from fear (Except my boy John dorie!)
I like seeing morgan get up to stuff, I'm glad that fear has given the oppertunity to lennie but also the character of morgan since I always loved seeing him on screen despite him being in the bad seasons of twd.
Obviously another boring bump in the boring road that is season 4 of fear the walking dead, Yet still fun watching Morgan. But never the less.
The Walking Dead: What Comes After (2018)
9.6 in my opinion!
Season 8 was the shows worst season by far, having some of the lowest rated episodes in the entire series. The season felt more like a crawl through the mud than anything else. Whats that? Season 9 you say? Its just gonna be trash- Wait a minute! That was actually good?
Season 9 is honestly an unexpected comeback from the muddy 8th season, back when most people dropped the show entirely. The first 5 episodes of season 9 are some of the best episodes in the series, it showed a really cool setting of post savior war, I loved seeing the communities all living united and it not brushing over the tensions left over from the semi peaceful end to the war. These 5 episodes brought the show back, and season 9 as a whole landed itself as one of my favorites.
People knew before the season began that Andrew Lincoln would be leaving the show, So people would be expecting the demise of Rick Grimes and were cautious coming into the season.
But over the 5 episodes, we were shown the new beginning Carl had imagined of everyone living in peace, Backed by well written internal character drama with actual weight behind it this time! We saw pay offs to character motivations left over from the end of season 8, most notiably Maggies wrath and sought after retribution for what Negan did to glenn!
Season 9 had so much going for it, and Ricks final episode as the main character was already carrying so much emotion and weight to it. Watching him flicker in and out of existance as he talks to Shane, Hershal and Sasha. And icing on the cake was Daryl and Ricks look, almost made me cry. With a flash, Rick was gone, but as we soon found out not for good, as he was taken away by Jadis and the CRM.
Fantastic episode!
The Walking Dead: The Day Will Come When You Won't Be (2016)
The Best Episode in Twd, no arguement.
I don't understand why this isn't higher than the 9.2, sure I'll take it over the undeserving 6.9 that last day on earth got. But god damn this deserves to be a hell of a lot higher.
The spectacular season 7 premire, and was the peak of twd, It sad to see that with came the most compelling plot line from the comics go down the drain from a quality stand point but wow! This episode quite literally ripped the fan base apart.
As much as I was sad they killed off Abraham and Glenn, this episode gave us the pay off season 6 left us off with and it was just a french kiss perfect. The atmosphere alone has never been more thick with tension and I don't think another show could ever attain those same levels of nail biting horror that came with this episode. Bash! Goes 2 of fan favorite characters, you didn't know who was next! There isn't a slick of saftey in this episode, not in the clearing, not in the rv, certainly not out in the horde!
Flawless episode! Honestly deserves a 10/10, breaking bad style!
The Walking Dead: Last Day on Earth (2016)
Hands down one of the best episodes in the entire series!
So we all know by now this season finale was HATED and brutally torn to pieces when it came out, all because of the cliffhanger ending.
This episode is undeserving of its (As of the end of 2022) 6.9/10 for all the wrong reasons, this episode executed almost flawlessly, the intensity that slowly built with every checkpoint until it all comes together when they're surrounded at the clearing. I remember watching this episode on the edge of my seat to absolute shaking at the end.
This episode is easily one of the most if not the most iconic moment through out the entire series! The way the saviors reveal themselves at the clearing, flawlessly created one of the most terrifying moments in any show I had watched up till then. And Negan (Not to mention Jeffery Dean Morgan's outstanding performance) was the icing on the cake!
To sum up, My only gripes with this episode is that it felt some what oddly paced with them rushing out of alexandria and them just goofin off in the rv until the final 20 minutes of the episode. And yes I do understand why people were annoyed with the blue balls they were left with when the bat came down. But that made it so great in the first place.
Honestly a 9.5 from me!
Not to mention that the season 7 premire is the best episode in the entire series!
The writers were too smart for the room on this one. Such a shame.
Fear the Walking Dead: Good Out Here (2018)
Good episode, but highlights the FEAR problem!
Nick clarke meets his end only 3 episodes into the fourth season. I understand and respect the actor's wish to leave the show. But sorta like Troy from the last season, they killed him unceremoniously, this time it seems like it was more for shock value and it was because the writers could since the actor wanted to leave.
This is the problem with Fear! I noticed with Travis and saw everyone saying the same thing when he met his end in the beginning of season 3, they killed off characters just as they start to get interesting! Nick clarke was clearly going through his arc this season, shown especially in the last episode with his PTSD and his urge to protect Charlie. I never really liked Nick in the first and second season but he grew on me with season 3 (Minus the last 3 episodes because they were basically reseting his character by him getting high.) But with these openning episodes, I really liked what they were doing with his character and I was excited to see where he'd go, what he'd do and how it'd be resolved. But yet again, he meets his fate at the end of the episode by being shot by Charlie fpr shock value, Just as his character started to get interesting again. He will now forever just be wasted potential, Such a shame.
Fear the Walking Dead: What's Your Story? (2018)
(A little late to the party) Exactly what FTWD needs!
Morgan as a character I loved, I remember watching him show up at the end of season 5 and was so pleased he became a regular and an integrule part of season 6-8. FTWD has always been "That" kind of show where it has its moments but its outshined by the bad (Take seasons 1 n 2 for instance) Fear always struggled to find its indentity but I feel like it really tried to with season 3 and despite that season being the strongest of the 7, Fear really needed a face, and Morgan was it! I know the ratings aren't amazing and don't get better, but I always loved Morgan as a character and cannot wait to see where his character goes now that hes found himself in another world!
