Heroes' Mountain (2002)
A fitting tribute....
When the landslide happened the last thing on anyone's mind was that 5 years down the track we would be watching the same event's unfolding before our eyes being replayed in a telemovie.
Craig McLaughlin as Stewart Diver is an interesting choice but he does the role justice. The only problem is that he doesn't look the role because everyone in Australia has seen Stuart Diver's face in the paper 100 times over and would instantly know him if they passed him in the street.
This event in Australian history is like our Kennedy assassination... everyone remembers where they were and what they were doing when it happened. I remember spending 3 days glued to the television and been drawn to tears when Stuart Diver's face rose out of the rubble. Truly amazing.
I give this movie a 7 out of 10 because it is so accurate in detail that you almost think you are looking at the real thing but a lot of detail is left out in the final product.
Haunted (1995)
The book was better
Aidan Quinn was a good choice for a sceptical scientist. He has the brooding good looks that make the fact that a girl 15 years younger than him could fall for him even though she was dead seem more realistic.
Overall though the book was better and a lot of detail was left out of the movie. If you read the book first I believe that you would be quite disappointed.
It would have been a lot better if the fact that the brother painted his sister nude had been left out.
The 'Burbs (1989)
I'd have to say that the bee incident is the best scene...
Of all of the movies that Tom Hanks has done this has to be one of the best. Sure most of his 80's comedy movies were all about the same thing - loser man finds girl, loses girl with laughs and falls on his feet in the end.
This movie is different in the fact that he actually has some hilarious one liners and slap stick comedy to keep himself going other than the definite outcome that fortune will prevail.
I'd have to say that the bee incident is the best scene in the movie even though it shows off Corey Feldman's only talent (that being moronic laughter).
I'd recommend this movie to anyone who wants to get to know the other side of Tom Hanks ie. non award winning.
Watch it over and over again I promise you will laugh every time.
