Scooby-Doo (2002)
I was SURPRIIISED!
25 June 2002
I have kids who practically forced me to buy tickets for S/D once we got to the theatre. But I must admit, within a few minutes I was pleasantly surprised at the laugh level of this flick. And the Shaggy character was BORN for this role with even more kudoes when you consider he was acting against a piece of tape on a blue screen! Without the kids, I would never have found my way into this movie, but I'm glad it's where I ended up-it was quite entertaining-and even more surprising for me, I found the "fart" scene incredibly funny, laughing well after that scene was over-and I am one who looks with disdain at the use of body function jokes for a few cheap laughs! Worth seeing for some good fun.

Greatest female action actor -ever- bar none
25 February 2002
I have always liked a good action movie with a woman lead, Linda Hamilton comes to mind in the Terminator series, of course Sigourney Weaver in the Alien series, and Laura Linney in The Congo,(another one of the Micheal Crichton renditions) was an excellent strong female in an action movie. But none can even come close to Geena Davis in "The Long Kiss Goodnight". She quite simply blew me away ( as well as an incredible amount of bad guys) with the way she "handled her business" in this flick. I gotta tell ya- I will love this woman forever as the result of scenes from this movie-like when jumping from what? six-seven flights up, simultaneously firing an automatic weapon in a circular pattern in order to break a hole through a frozen lake surface-at the same time dragging an incredulous Sam Jackson out the window with her. Yo, this woman, this movie is the Boom Diggie!! I could probably go on extolling this movie for at least 25 to 30 thousand words, but you know, I'd rather look at this movie than write about it, so I'm off. My advice to you is go rent Stuart Little, in case you're one of those weirdos that don't have your own personal copy at home, then follow it up with Cutthroat Island and then finish your evening with "Long Kiss Goodnight" and I guarantee you it will take every bit of will you've got in ya to keep from stalking this woman-not to mention I only found out today she was born on the exact same date as my own, 1/21/56-an Aquarius on top of everything. (Getting a little weird on ya but I had to find some way to throw that in)Don't worry Geena I am happily married with a houseful of happy Geena fans at home right now watching Mr Little! To anyone who hasn't had the pleasure, get out there and rent this film today- you will not be disappointed-to say the least! Finally-you match up Arnold vs Geena based on this movie-and you gotta go with Geena Davis-hands down- This babe is bad! This flick is sweet!

The Matrix (1999)
Matrix 1, Star Wars 0
7 February 2002
I know this is the Matrix comment area, but I must lend agreement to others' comments re Phantom Menace. It truly disappointed. And whose idea was it to insult our intelligence with the computer generated buffoon-JaJaBinks? or something. Clearly the need to sell dolls to kids in the aftermarket superseded the need to produce a quality sci-fi flick! O well, I guess they are prepared to deduct lower receipts for the next movie from their toy windfall-cause I'll see the next one on cable! NOW, about a REAL movie-The MATRIX! How could one not be enthralled by the concept of this movie. One has only to look at any action movie made since 1999 to test this movie's influence on the action movie genre. From Shrek to Charlie's Angels to Crouching Tiger-Matrix has left it's mark with special effects. But beyond that, thc concept of machines turning the tables and using humankind for energy units was staggering. And that in conjunction with the breeding grounds and the energy fields reaping wattage from millions of humans while they dream on of a reality that doesn't exist numbed my thought process for a half hour after Keanu/Neo woke up in the glass bathtub/toilet. I can't understand those who deride the movie for lack of originality. I mean, sure, machines vs humans is not new-but the manner in which this one was presented was so radical, and that's from an avid sci-fi reader for the last 20 years! I only wish I could see it again for the first time so I could attempt to figure out what the hell the Matrix is before it is revealed! And my only disappointment is that the Tank character is to be portrayed by an different actor. I was impressed by his role and performance.Well I am also disappointed by the length of time we have to wait for the sequel. Hey does anyone know if it is true that they are shooting Matrix 2 & 3 at the same time? Finally, it is ridiculous to suggest that Carrie Moss cannot act. Have you seen "Memento"?
