Phantasm (1979)
Please pass on this movie
As someone who can tell a good movie from a bad one, especially in the horror genre, please do yourself a favor and pass on this movie. It was a TOUGH watch through to the end. This isn't some cult classic that you have to see either like some may make it seem. The acting is rough, but the story is even rougher. And this movie might contain one of the worst and poorly thought-out endings I've ever seen. Please, just watch something else.
It Chapter Two (2019)
More CGI than all of the Sharknado movies COMBINED
Oh my, where to start...
Whoever did the trailer for this movie should win some kind of award, because the trailer completely sold me that I was going to watch to good horror movie. Sadly, it was quite bad.
Not only was the plot poorly scripted, this movie felt like it lasted for an eternity to the point I was really hoping for some kind of intermission that I knew wasn't coming.
The casting for the adults was decent, but the actor who played Mike, who got everyone back together, was unbelievably bad. Like, how's he working in Hollywood bad. This movie should've been scripted around the kids from the first one.
This movie really hits you over the head with CGI. The scariest part from the trailer, the old lady, gets ruined because they went the CGI route. And that was just the tip of the iceberg. If you do decide to watch this, let me warn you now, what they do with Pennywise at the end will more than likely disappoint you.
Don't waste your $10 bucks on a movie ticket. This is a," Look! It Chapter 2 is on HBO tonight and nothing else is on" kind of movie.
War Machine (2017)
What did I just watch?
Gosh, where to begin...I caught War Machine scrolling through Netflix on a day off and thought I'd give it a chance. Any movie with Brad Pitt can't be horrible right? Sadly, wrong. Perhaps horrible isn't the correct adjective. Painfully mediocre is more accurate.
This painfully mediocre film just simply doesn't know what it is. There are some semi-comedic scenes that prompted a chuckle or two. Was it supposed to be a drama about the war in Afghanistan? The country really only serves as a setting(minus one combat scene) and the many facets of the war there were seldom touched on. Instead you get Brad Pitt doing a VERY, VERY strange tough-guy/chain-smoker accent portraying a 4-Star General in the Army who has about as much personality as a wet blanket. I kept on wanting his character to morph into this cool, savvy, funny, leader...but it just never happened. The film's main focus, I think, was supposed to be about a writer from the Rolling Stone magazine exposing his unit as unfit. This was clear in how the film ended, but during the run-time of the movie, that sub-plot was about fifth down the line of sub-plots in terms of interest by this watcher.
Basically, there's a good movie buried somewhere deep in here. But what we got was a jumbled up mess that struggles to inform the viewer what the movie is really supposed to be about. It's a shame the producers could not compile such interesting topics and ideas into at least an average movie.
3/10
Reeker (2005)
Average...at best.
I should have known before even watching the movie that the title gave the movie away. It "Reeked". To have some descent actors/actresses(blonde guy from Hostel and blonde girl from American Pie, Band Camp) in the film, the plot was just too far fetched. 4 youngsters(1 of them being blind) are traveling through a desert and get stranded at a diner/motel. I will not go into much more detail other than there is some kind of ghost going around killing people like any other blood and gore type movie. Throughout the movie I was thinking there was going to be a silly ending to it, but I was rather surprised that the end tried very hard to be clever but instead came off leaving me thinking "Who came up with this ending" in a bad way. Overall, if you are looking for something to watch late at night it could be worth your time, depending if there is anything else on.
