Dexter: New Blood (2021)
Great Series MINUS DEB
This is a great series to mend the bad ending of the original series and brings Harrison into the picture but OMG did they have to bring the most annoying actress back into the story AKA Deb? She was ranked one of the worst characters in TV but they bring her back for more emotional breakdowns and F bombs???. She was so annoying in the original series that by Season 6, I fast forwarded EVERY DEB SCENE. It resulted in about 20 mins being shaved off per episode but didn't miss a thing. Do yourself a favour and do the same - you won't regret it. Same with this series, I fast forward EVERY DEB SCENE which made the series VERY ENJOYABLE. Harrison does great and Dexter never disappoints but for the love of God, if there are spin offs, LEAVE DEB OUT.
Dexter (2006)
Amazing Series Minus Deb...
A brilliant series with an amazing cast but would have been better without Deb as a leading role. Her inability to control her temper and string three words without dropping the F bomb became very old after the first couple of seasons and downright annoying into seasons 3 and on. They should have given a larger role to Batista and a minor role to Deb and my rating would have been a 10/10. Dexter himself was amazing and had me cheering for him as he executes vigilante justice on those who got away with horrible crimes. Just sad that most episodes were around the Deb character as from I can see from many other reviews, she was a major turn off for others as well, otherwise, a huge Dexter fan here!
Ray Donovan: Las Vegas (2017)
Fast Forward
This show had wicked momentum until it hit season 5 and all these flashbacks with Abby. The writers should have just killed her off in Season 4 and moved on but this "forward /rewind" in episodes 1 and 2 is annoying. Completely lost its mojo but I'll tough these Abby flashbacks and see if Episode 3 picks up or I might call it a day on this series early. Portraying this extremely dysfunctional couple as loving and committed to each other is a joke. He's a womanizer that treated Abby like sh-t which led to her having an affair as well. This sentimental garbage is laughable and shouldn't have made the cut.
The Walking Dead: Dead City (2023)
Love love love it!
So happy that TWD decided to keep going by adding this series after the Fear of The Walking Dead derailment. Negan and Maggie are fan favourites, but with the amount of characters in the original WD series (coupled with Maggie's exit but return), it was difficult to give them to get the screen time they deserved as the series was ALL over the place after Rick Grimes departure - but to have a series focused on THEM is amazing even if we are just at episode 3. I hope it continues for a long run and eventually reunite the original cast back together - Rick, Darryl, Maggie and a few sidekicks would be AMAZING. Anyways, this is a great start to the series and can't wait for more!!!!
Alone Australia (2023)
Contestants so far are Too Weak
After watching the North American version of Alone for the past 6 years, I've come to realize by watching Alone Australia that North Americans are tougher and more resilient than Australians. After 2 days, 3 contestants have tapped out and none have started to build permanent shelters nor have gathered any food. They just seem to sit there and complain about the elements while bragging about being "survivalists". It's entertaining and fun to watch as the land is quite unforgiving like Alone Vancouver was but seeing the novice skills of the contestants makes me question the search done by the Alone casting crew. Will watch til the end but us North Americans are just a different breed!
FUBAR (2023)
Just Plain Old Fun!
Fubar is a fun action comedy made up of some of classic Arnold movies combined into one. It's like watching Commando, True Lies, Jingle All the Way etc etc bundled into one with great Arnie one liners... If you love Arnold, action and comedy, then you'll love Fubar but if you're not an Arnie fan, you'll find the show as being dumb, over played and just plain idiotic which is likely the reason for some of the ratings are low, but it's just what the doctor ordered for me in this crazy, upside down world as it's just fun to sit and watch a great series with lots of laughs! I hope they have more than just one season cause this is GREAT!!!
Succession (2018)
Seasons 1-3 are Amazing
I am at Season 4, episode 9 and I can honestly say that seasons 1-3 are the most amazing episodes I've ever watched in any TV series but season 4, not so much. Seasons 1-3 are all about the children's 3 of the 4) desire to take over the empire and are very cut throat to earn "daddy" Logan's blessing and is a masterpiece, but season 4 just drags on especially after Logan's death and is just episode after episode of "noise".. It feels like a billion things are going on after Logan's death and the guy hasn't even had a funeral yet - I think they could have easily wrapped it up after Logan's death and his will say "and the company goes to ......" rather than dragging on and on and on and on...
Inventing Anna (2022)
So Much Potential
I, like many, were drawn to this series because 1) It's based on a true story and 2) Julia Garner from her amazing performance in Osark's. And so I thought to myself, "this is going to be AMMAAAZZZINNNGGGG
" as there's nothing better than a true story led by an awesome actor.. Well, I was absolutely right! It was AMAZING... Amazingly BAD!!!! Anna's accent (Julia) js HORRIBLE.. She sounds like a girl from the mid-west trying to speak with a British accent which is a horrible combo. Listening to her talk was almost enough to turn it off .. On top of that, you have to put up with the annoying pregnant reporter, Vivian, who just makes the series even worse. Had they just focused on Anna, her arrest and trial, it would have been much better but instead, you get a 9 episode Soap Opera made up of horrible writing and acting, and you have Inventing Anna. My advice is "watch episode 1 and skip the rest - its garbage. Google what happened to her and save yourself hours of pain.
The Night Agent (2023)
Bad acting
IF you love bad acting, then this series is for you. IF you want stupid dialogue, the this series is for you. IF you want to paint the FBI with a bad brush, then this series is for you. This is just painful to watch... If you don't believe me, give it a try! Try watching the train bombing and not picture bad acting. Try watching the night at the aunts and uncles and not picture extremely bad acting. I don't know about you, but if I just saw my aunt and uncle assassinated, I would be traumatized and devastated but the niece's acting is so bad it was "just another night out"... Try to picture the car chase and not think of bad acting. The dialogue is beyond painful and the characters have no "realism" or "chemistry" to them at all. Whoever wrote this and screened the actors needs to find another line of work... BAD BAD BAD.
Your Honor (2020)
Don't pay attention to the comments about the son...
I almost didn't watch the series based on the negative comments about the son but am SO glad I decided to try it anyways because the series is amazing with twists and turns at every angle!!! Although the story is ABOUT the son and his actions, his character makes up about 10% of the scenes and he is NOT annoying at all!!! He plays the part well as a teenage boy who's mother was murdered and then has to deal with the consequences of having committed a hit and run resulting in the death of a mobster's 17 yr old son... The story is about a father's unconditional love for his child and desire to protect him at all costs and he uses his power as a judge to do just that by concealing the hit and run.. it's a BRILLIANT series so don't let comments about the son deter you- I found him to be a very good actor in the circumstance that he was in. If you watched Breaking Bad, you will love this series. I give it a 10/10.
Will Trent (2023)
Just Ok.. in Wait and See Mode
Has tons of potential but the acting is mediocre at it's best. Watching detectives argue about dating at a crime scene is BEYOND stupid. The major networks need to learn from the likes of Netflix, Prime Video etc on how to produce "real life" dramas. This "fake" and "unrealistic" perception of real life detective won't last past 1 or 2 seasons. It looks fake, feels fake and barely draws you in. I will continue to watch to see if it "grabs me" but so far, it's not on my priority list of "must watches". I have it recorded and will watch if I don't have other things to watch. I scored it a 7/10 as it's not great, but not horrible.. the jury is still out on this one!
The Menu (2022)
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner
Several reviews call it "stupid" and question how a crowd of people couldn't "defend themselves" against the chef.. The point of the movie is that these people are cowards and are weak. They prey on the vulnerable with their riches and come across as "strong" but they are weak, spoiled and gutless celebrities EXCEPT for Margot the call girl - the one who WASNT SUPPOSED TO BE THERE!!! She is the exception to the cowards in the room because of her lowly lifestyle but was the ONLY ONE who beat him. How? Because they could relate to each other while the others couldn't. Both are undervalued by the rich and seen as "servants"... That's the premise of the movie and if you watch it from that angle, you'll get it. No, it makes no sense that a crowd of people wouldn't fight back, but it makes sense when you realize that they are all self loathing cowards who portray themselves as "rich, strong and powerful" but in essence are all weak EXCEPT for Margot --BRILLIANT MOVIE!!!
Inside Man (2022)
Interesting-
This show has some really stupid parts, but if you can get past those and watch with an open mind, you will see the point that they are trying to make which is: "Very few people wake up in the morning and plan on committing an atrocious crime, but 99% of the time- that's exactly what happens and all of the sudden, life changes forever". That's the story behind the Vicar and his family as one minute they are living the dream with a perfect life and the next, they are living a nightmare that keeps spinning out of control as they try to make a "wrong" "right". Yes, it seems far fetched, but in reality, we have all read of the great lengths that people have gone through in order to "cover their tracks".. THIS is what this is about and once you watch with that mindset, you will be able to
accept the "far fetched" parts as real possibilities.. Looking forward to more episodes of this mind twisting drama...
