His Only Son (2023)
Great depiction for the budget!
David Helling retells a powerful story with consideration, Biblical conviction and determination. Nicolas Mouawad plays the part of Abraham with intensity and believability. I felt that Sara Syed played Sarah's younger self more convincingly but overall well portrayed. Edaan Moskowitz as Isaac was a bit wooden at times, and his accent not altogether convincing, however, in the main, an honest effort in characterization. The film is a call to the degree of faith necessary to be children of God (1 John 3, et al). Thought provoking and intense without being scary or flimsy of message. Apart from Christ himself,, arguably the Bible's single most display of absolute obedience. Highly recommend as a must see.
Christ Tempted (2014)
We can resist
The director David Helling has done a good job of depicting one of the most compelling experiences of Christ, before his ministry on earth began. Should that humankind be so discerning as to resist the temptations of the world. The acting is better than good and Daniel da Silva is an actor to keep an eye on for such Biblical depictions. While the dialogue has been made to "advance the narrative" of the story, visually and Biblically this short film is true to the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. Telling Bible stories can never be an easy task as humans are only too fallible to deign such grand knowledge.
The Chosen: The Shepherd (2017)
Powerful
This short film could have been made without dialogue and would still have imparted the powerful and awesome message of all time. The acting and scenes clearly depict the discrimination, hypocrisy and characteristics of the time; as well as the glory of the message to the shepherds to 'come hither' - be drawn to - witness the greatest event known to humankind. Cinemagraphic faux pas notwithstanding, this is an appropriate prelude to the TV series 'The Chosen' about the life of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Definitely a must see for any season as a reminder of His majesty every day throughout the year.
