Reptile (2023)
Rakoczy the Hungarian hero
The movie is not bad for a detective movie. Happy that Benicio this once did not participate in a bloodbath film as he used to. Less aggression and disgusting murder scenes are preferred. It is slightly slow, and therefore a tiny bit boring. The story is a bit schematic. These are still fine, in light of the acting qualities of Timberlake, Toro and Bogosian.
However, just one mark and message to the creators of the film: if you use Hungarian family names like "Rakoczy" (which bytheway refers to a Hungarian historical family, i.e. Rakoczy Ferencz)....so if, for some strange reason, you refer to such specific family name in the movie, you better learn how to pronounce it correctly.
Jack Ryan (2018)
Using Budapest as Jolly Joker of all times
The 3rd series is very enjoyable and eventful filled with actualities.
Only one thing is that using Budapest's venues as Russian and Czech locations for Moscow and Prague is a bit disturbing. This also causes some recognizable mistakes. For instance, when the story switches back to the location of Prague which is written in the bottom left corner while a car with Hungarian plate is approaching in the scene; or when the total shows Prague and its castle with the Karl's Bridge in front, where Jack Ryan stands and talks on the earphone with his Russian asset, while the next cut is from the Margaret-bridge in Budapest. You can see its yellow railing and even the Hungarian crown with the cross on top hewn out of stone.
Might be well-known, it is much cheaper and easier to film in Budapest, also because of the great support of the authorities and the historical buildings that are still standing, but a sort of cliché as well is to write Moscow on the screen while showing the Buda castle or the Citadel or Jack walking with the Russian asset in the Vermezo or standing alone in front of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and, in places, the yellow tram (line 2) running in the background or the National Museum is even sold for opera house of Russian ballet performance.
Same as it was for the Spy Game, The Debt or Homeland, etc.
