Pig (2021)
like wading through treacle!
It's been a while to review a movie on here but owe it to you all. Cage gets his beloved pig poached by his buyer's dad and he's a man apart. Fast forward the film an hour or so later. What a crock! Seems like the whole film was in slow motion. It's great for insomnia but you're left trying to fathom out how the heck it got anywhere near a 7/10.
Cage will always be a B actor, if employed at all after this.
The Expendables 3 (2014)
Thoroughly enjoyable
I rarely write reviews..... I'm a man and this is a man's film. Even though the Mrs was 'intrigued'. Very Hollywood, quite unbelievable, but so action packed, one stops caring! Patrick Hughes, you did good. Sly, you're brilliant, Stathom, you're a fabulous British export, Arnie, you still got it brother, Dolph, you are so coolio, Harisson, you are a legend, Antonio, everyone on the planet loves you Sir. Mel, we prefer you as the good guy, Jet, you're an icon chief. Kellan - wouldn't want to meet you on a dark corner BOSS. Good work guys. Pleasure us with a fourth YAY??! Overall, my best part was the first opening before the credits mind. Wesley, you scare me brother.
13 Sins (2014)
Will give halfway
OK. So the first 7 'dares' gripped me, especially 7 & 8, but I felt a little bit of dissolution by the remaining tasks as they took on an 'you're the not man you started out 3 days ago' scenario.. Absolutely love Ron Purlman, and I don't think he'd advocate the motorbike scene, even though he's a nutter. (Is is possible that bodies can still move without a head?!) I do honestly believe that America's answer to our English Simon Pegg should be Mark Webber. If you're listening buddy, you've got what it takes to become America's next Carey / Martin. You are a flaming good actor buddy!! My respect to your Hollywood intro chief. As a horror drama - no
The Art of the Steal (2013)
Loved it gang!
Okay. Not a big fan of any of the actors but the story unfolded in ways that were suspenseful. Terence and Kurt done themselves proud and the direction from Sobol was a fabulous outing. Many twists which kept you riveted, so plaudits to Sobol for that and I put this one down from an impartiential to an 8 of 10. Even the acting wasn't bad. Not one I'd watch again, and not one for the Mrs as they're only into slushy tripe these days, overall. It doesn't seem to be a mainstream film, but maybe should have been rated higher than the IMDb fans should have granted. All in all, well worth a viewing fellow filmers! Get through the first 20 is all I say! Much fun had. London UK
Her (2013)
I just don't get it!! Proper awful
Like the summary line, I just really didn't get this. Nor did the Mrs. And we are avid film fans, especially of JP. He played the role excellently, but you just wanted something more from him, anger or something. He looked like a man on the boil but it never came. The idea was good, a lonely guy falling in love with a female operating system, and getting an 8.6 on IMDb, I had to watch it. Sadly I had to watch it to the end. Longest moment of my life. As I said, the acting was very good and the os had a really sexy voice. Thing is, how did they get it on? wtf I would give this one a miss and watch Wolf of Wall Street instead. OMG
Flight (2012)
A very good film
I saw this with trepidation after reading the main page's review on this film of 1/10 not expecting much, but to be honest, I was most moved by it overall. Yes it starts brilliantly with the plane bit, and does get kind of drag in the middle, but it all sort of came together at the end. Quite moving, and funny in places. There's an all star cast in this so you kind of expect it to be big and I wasn't disappointed hence the 7/10. Brilliantly acted by Denzel and a must see especially if you're a fan of his art. Well recommended by me. Enjoy. And watch out for Denzel's short term gf in this. She's only had bit parts in English TV and pulled off a great performance.
Late September (2012)
Drawn out
Although this film appears to be about real everyday life , when you pay for a film you wish to be taken away from hum drum. This film in parts was SO drawn out. The ending was flimsy. Although most can identify with one or two characters was just bored to tears. Feel the full 148 Min's was life stolen. I kept expecting it to grasp my mind but feel asleep at parts literally. Had potential to be a whole lot more. The acting OK. 1 scene at the party which presented a puppet telling a tragic love story which seemed to stay in my head more than the film I'd watched. I'm a big avid fan of the British film but feel this really was a old episode of Brookside. The lighting was also harsh.
Arbitrage (2012)
One of RG's BEST films ever
Robert Robert Robert! (aka Richard G). Can money get you out of murder / homicide? Manipulation even? It's a must see to find out. The web just kept spinning for Robert. The more lies led to more lies. It was one of RG's best movies to date. It had everything; money, power, death, manipulation, lawyers, story, love, mistress, family, business, Harlem!, trust, mistrust. Jeez. You couldn't have written a better story (and directed by same story writer)
Something annoys me about IM Dee Beee, and that's the way you can downgrade a fantastic movie to a 6.6, probably because you smoked too much pot beforehand, or you'd watch it in a rage, or viewed it late at night when you're tired! This movie is one of the best I've seen this (and last) decade.
MUST SEE!
The Pact (2012)
Save yourself the bother
Just wasted 2 hours of my life watching this drivel. The movie makes little sense and is like a jigsaw of unexplained oddities. It's not even scary even though it was billed as one of the scariest movies ever. Yeah righto. My ten year old daughter watched it with me and she thought it was pants as well. There isn't one scary bit in the film that you might recall later to a friend.
VERY disappointed, especially with the ending which made absolutely no sense whatsoever! please ignore much of the comments from users who rate this film... They obviously don't watch enough films
Overall I gave it a three out of ten because it was well acted throughout. Just didn't make any sense!
All the best gang!
The Devil's Double (2011)
OMG. I'm short of superlatives!!
It's nearing 1am on a Thursday, and I have to get up at 6... but I had this raving compunction to write only my third review ever - on this film, and I don't care about tomorrow... Dominic Cooper deserves an Oscar for his role in this film! This was one of the most eye gazing films since Scarface. And to think it was all true makes this even more stunning. My Mrs tried to talk to me about half hour in, and I did the pretend to listen bit when she looked at me for an answer. Whoops. Weren't listening love! Didn't mind she knew neither! I really do advocate this film right to the top. It had everything. Need I not explain everything to hardened film critiques...? I've never rated a film higher than a 7 - even The Shawshank Redemption only got a 7 from me, and to date is my favourite, but this film blew my breath away. Please don't miss out the opportunity. There's a reason why some have voted it 11/10 !! ROLE ON THE Oscars!
The Experiment (2010)
A bit slow
I found this movie a bit slow. Despite the great cast, there was nothing to say why the experiment was undertaken in the first place.
I love Forest and Adrian in general... Last King of Scotland, The Pianist were their best, but this fell a little flat I'm afraid.
I struggled to see why the experiment wasn't stopped went it kicked up. The set was good, but the whole idea of it didn't mean anything really. I found myself just wanting to get to the end. The acting was good though.
Watchable, but don't put it on your must see listing! There was also a David Beckham lookalike in it - you'd have sworn it was him!
Machete (2010)
This is a wind up right..!?!
Can't remember writing a review before, but after seeing this, I must warn others! It's like knowing there's an invasion coming and you have to let people know! Probably one of the worst movies I've seen actually, and I've seen thousands! AND I like this type of movie - ordinarily! If you're going to make a tongue in cheek movie, like Knight and Day, then add some sort of humour to it to make it look like you are, otherwise it just comes across as a bad attempt at a serious film. I mean, how on earth did it achieve a 7+ rating! By all means, take a look for yourself and remember my warning. This is on a par with The Expendables, but at least that had some 'humour'.
I would like to write about some of the really 'cheesy' bits, but then I'd have to mark this review up as containing spoilers, so just take my word for it.
(Can't BELIEVE it's rated as a 7+ film! Who on EARTH is writing these reviews? KIDS?!))
Apocalypto (2006)
Great night in!!
A lot of coincidences going on, but you kinda forget that!! Also the subs don't spoil it. Mel's done a good job with this one! Get out the popcorn
It's quite disturbing in some places too, and the gore only really adds to the feast. You really get to dislike some of the characters in it too, which I think is quite difficult in a film. And where did they get all those actors from. Are they real pierced parts they're wearing or what!?
I can easily endorse this one and I'm a hard fan to please where films are concerned. Go and buy it too, as you'll want to see it again for sure.
