1917 (2019)
1917 - Exceptionally Good...
Oscar race front runner, Golden Globe winner, many other recognitions.. All these were enough reasons to see it on the first day.. Went with high expectations, and totally satisfied by the output. One of the best war movies ever made in Hollywood. It succeeded in evoking the human emotions, and the viewers felt the fear, pain and tension in a war front without many battle scenes. Sam Mendes, the captain beautifully blended all the departments. Wondered by the single shot-like movie flow from Roger Deakins camera and Lee Smiths cuts. The sound design and mixing were top notch for Atmos screen. Production designs were also praise worthy.
Don't miss the theatrical experience.
A Must Watch !!!
Peranbu (2018)
Peranbu - True Gem !!!
Hats off Director Ram for crafting this unadulterated piece of art... Nowadays, we have so many brilliant film makers here... What makes Ram different, the gut / braveness he brings to the scenarios discussed in his films... Here itself how beautifully, he has broken many social taboos through his characters and the situations they faced..
Coming to the performances.. it's a real treat to watch Mammootty-the great actor playing a role suits to his grandeur.. And that girl Sadhana literally shocked us... Both Anjali's are also good for their roles..
The film scored in its technical side also.. Theni Eswars lenses, Yuvan's soulful music and the pace consistency in Suriya's edit..
Do not expect a tear jerker.. It will make you smile, sad, angry and feel for the characters, Sometimes it will slap on your self ego.. Ultimately it will try to cleanse your heart with the rays of goodness and hope...
A must watch... !!!
Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja (2009)
Pazhassiraja- A masterpiece...
Hariharan-M.T Vasudevan Nair-Mammootty team After 20 Years..After evergreen classic Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha..Expectations were sky high...Did they meet it..?My answer is a big YES...Yes one of the best war films in India..No doubt..
But comparing it with OVVG is not a good thing...In OVVG MT had full freedom to mould his character with multi-shades because of its fiction or fantasy treatment of Vadakkan Pattu. Here it is a chapter from History..So He used a safety path of straight forward storytelling...We can say script wise MT Excelled in OVVG than this..But a war film from history is not at all an easy task..Because common audience have to follow the path with less troubles..Here MT succeeded 100% with a gripping screenplay within the commercial format...You can see the beauty of dialogues here also..
Hariharan...Seriously I was very much doubtful about his treatment..Because of his recent deliveries..But he corrected in this one...His directorship is very much apt for this movie...He superbly handled(utilised) actors and production crew in all categories..
Mammootty...Who can else in Malayalam to portray a Legendary King...His screen-presence will do half the things..He performed it with subtle manner..kind of underplay...exactly opposite of Chandhu in oVVG...For fans It will be little bit disappointment...Because MT did his characterisation in this way...Thats the one of the best thing about the script..Otherwise it would have been a one-man show...
Sarathkumar...A real warrior in all aspects...Most favourite character in this film for masses..One of his career best..Manoj,Pathmapriya other protagonists..are also in good form... Technical side: Ramnath shetty:- Beauty of frames without camera gimmicks...Night shots the best one in Malayalam..(He excelled in these category in Virumandi also.."Unnai vidai" song). Resuls Sound Mixing...IMO, it's his best work than Oscar slumdog...BGM is good..But Raja sir could have done it even better...
Next is Gokulam Gopalan...big applause for his guts and dedication for this project..
I'm not going to the negatives...(because those are very minute things here...) This kind of films...Rarely happens in Malayalam...A real pride of Malayalam....
Vaaranam Aayiram (2008)
Vaaranam Aayiram -- -Surya is in Big League....A worth watch...
Vaaranam Aayiram--itz Surya all the way...He roxx to the core....What a versatility he gave to the different phases of his character... As a teenager, lover, loser, commando, aged man his performance is top class...His body language and voice modulation all are excellent...I can say..now he is in big league with the finest actors of our country...
Coming to the film....itz an autobiographical one...so we cant blame the pace of the movie...Even though the narration is racy in first half. In second half there are lot of incidents...(transition from a loser to a good individual..) Surya-Sameera reddy love track is minty cool..n Surya-Divya track is also OK...Then the Delhi episode...IMO itz a refreshing idea frm Goutham..(To overcome the loss of tragic event in Hero's life..)Someone may not agree that...After that the army scenes...surya really looks like an army man...And the final dialogue from simran is also touching...
Performancewise Surya...His career best performance till date....Next comes Simran...Matured performance ..Both Sameera and Divya are apt for the roles...No gimmicks in Cinematography and Editing...BGM and music is beautifully synchronised with the mood of the film....
If you are looking for a masala entertainer, then stay away from here...
Overall, itz a must watch ....
