really good movie
28 March 2003
Spleen from Australia is completely wrong. This is a very good movie, with a very good imagery. It is much more subtle and sensitive than the summary on imdb suggests. This movie is not simply about a bad man turning good. On the contrary, it is asking questions about what's good and what's bad. It is about common people who are trying to make a living, and about the harshness of life. Allahu akbar. The Lord gives and the Lord takes. This is about common people who have been struck by life. But they can't give up. Disturbinf however is how well the man and the woman cope with the loss of their children. Many would end up in a psychiatric hospital, after losing so tragically their children. Instead, they go to their work the next day.

6.4 is a shame, 10 is the only option

It is a shame that so many people dared to vote less than a 10 for this brilliant movie. All these voters should be expelled from imdb, and never be allowed to return. The images the director creates and the psychological portraits of the personnages are so meaningful to better understanding of what it means to be alive, that this movie should be obligatorily seen by all. Or better not, because the mass won't understand the message about freedom and incertainty. The mass wants certainty and plain truths, not incertainty and hesitation.

superb movie about estrangement and loneliness
26 March 2002
There is in this movie one of the best scenes ever to be seen on. Deweare is outside on a parking place, in the night in the city. He shouts etc. About love. I don't remember exactly what he says, but the sadness, lostness, despair and loneliness in the city that he is expressing, the image this scene is offering has been one of my main inspirations for my artwork. This movie makes me really cry, so much it touched me in my heart. It is like a religious experience, this image of estrangement in modern lost times in the city.

movie about tenderness in modern, estranged times
26 March 2002
As usual with Fassbinder this movie is about a search for tenderness and love in estranged, modern times. Some of the most beautiful shots I have ever seen. And yet so simple. This movie made me deeply cry. Never will I forget the scene where he declares that he loves his wife, and that she says she will call him schnauz, because he reminds her of a dog. Outside, in the snow. Fassbinder is an artist who depicts the tragedy of modernity, of our society in which we are lost.
