Navalny (2022)
Another murder at the behest of Putin.
After the news of Alexey Navalny's death, I re-watched this documentary. I wonder why he wanted to return to Russia so badly? He knew what to expect from the paranoid Putin, and yet he had extraordinary courage to make this decision, which ultimately cost him his life.
He could have lived in Germany with his family, like many other famous dissidents who left Russia, such as Garry Kasparov or Mikhail Kasyanov. And at his age he would have had every chance to catch the end of Putin and return to Russia at a more favorable time.
He should have known that after the assassination of Boris Nemtsov, anything is possible in Russia and a democratic transformation of the country is not yet possible.
20 Days in Mariupol (2023)
A terrorist and expansionist state that threatens anyone.
A documentary that must be seen. It is the reality of the war, that is currently taking place and that cannot leave indifferent those who care about what is happening. In the first days of the war, I went to the Siret customs with my cousin from Suceava . We wanted to see if we could help the refugees, who were fleeing the war and entering Romania. And yes, we helped, but I won't go into the details. What I could see then, made me feel a lot of hatred towards the Russians. Women and children who were fleeing their country, being threatened by the ambitions of a state, that does not accept the democratic developments in neighbouring countries.
The 20 days of filming in Mariupol show only a small part of the crimes and destruction in Ukraine, which the Russian army has done. The film came out late, a year and a half after the events presented, but it is an outstanding achievement, through which the whole world can see what the harshness of war means.
I believe that NATO made a big mistake by not getting involved in the defense of Ukraine's territory, by establishing a no-fly zone, as Ukraine requested at the start of the Russian invasion. And now, no one can predict how and when this ongoing conflict will end.
Chernobyl (2019)
That's exactly what happened.
I rewatched the series this year on the 37th anniversary of those events, which I remember very well. Their aftermath should have been a reason for all states to act in such a way that it does not happen again. But thanks to an aggressive and expansionist state that started a war in Europe, today an accident can occur at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, which would have the same consequences.
We who live in the countries of Eastern Europe are happy that we are no longer vassals to an evil empire, but the threat from the east continues to exist.
What is the price of truth or what is the price of lies? The film shows us how all those who told the truth at that time were defamed and accused, and the lie triumphed at the cost of thousands of lives.
You Can Live Forever (2022)
Congratulations to the two actresses and both directors!
The end of this film includes a message from the screenwriters, which assures us that there will be a sequel. This results from Jaime's line repeated at the end - Not gonna let me go?
And no, Marike will not let her disappear again, and in the future they will take advantage of any opportunity to meet.
And from here, my imagination created a sequence of events from We can live together, which will continue the action from You can live forever.
After Luca turns 3 years old, he will remain in the care of Mark-Olivier, who will prove the most tolerant person in the community, in the context of the conflicts that will arise, following Marike's decision to go to university. Marike will not be disfellowshipped, being supported by Beth and Amanda and she will not abandon Luca, because she will spend her holidays in Saguenay. The action will take place during the period when Marike will study at the University of Montréal - Faculty of Environmental Design, while Jaime will have completed his law studies and will work at a law firm. They will live together in Montréal. The dynamics of the film will be amplified by the investigations of the two friends, whose aim is to find Marike's mother. In this film, we will also meet Jaime's mother, who will provide decisive support in the complicated situations they will go through. The ending will be dramatic and will show us the reunion between Marike and her mother.
I was asked why the ending will be dramatic, when this reunion should be a reason for joy? Because it will be a last-minute find. This will take place at an airport in the USA, from where Kate together with her husband and their son 9 years younger than Marike, will leave for a long time in a Middle Eastern country.
Another question followed: How would they find Marike's mother if she was no longer in Canada, had remarried and had a child? Very simple. After meeting Marike, Jaime's mother will remember that 3 years ago she attended a meeting of activists promoting the rights of minorities, and there a woman from the USA spoke, talking about her brother who married a woman from Canada, who had been forced to leave her family, without being able to see her two daughters, due to religious beliefs. She didn't know that woman's name, and everything that followed would be suspenseful and unpredictable.
The investigations coordinated by Jaime will lead the three to the USA, to the address where that woman lived. The moment they introduce themselves and say who they are looking for, she will realize that she has one of her sister-in-law's daughters in front of her.
There will be a race against time to the airport, where they will reach the limit as Kate and her husband and son head for the boarding gate. The moment of reunion between mother and daughter cannot be described here. The final reply will be from Kate's husband who will address his son saying:-Let's meet your sister!
