Disenchantment (2018)
Better than most of Futurama and every moment of the Simpsons
The Simpsons was good - 25 years ago. Futurama has always been better and still holds up today, nearly every episode.
Disenchantment was very good from the first episode and only got better as it went on. It's a lot more difficult to run a serial than produce on-off episodes, and the story in Disenchantment doesn't disappoint.
Hold your reviews until you'v watched the entire season.
Only God Forgives (2013)
I was suckered
I feel like I've just been through a Darren Aronofsky film - which means I feel like I've just been violated and almost put to sleep at the very same time. Before you get your kink on, that's not a good thing.
So you like - no you LOVE - the movie "Drive" and you think, "hey this other movie was written and directed by the same bloke, sounds promising!" - and then you find out you were dead wrong.
Great direction and cinematography, yawner senseless story. Honestly, something that would have worked much better as a 20 minute short instead of a feature length picture clocking in at almost 2 hours - though it felt like 5.
I can only hope that Refn gets back to directing great screenplays from other writers.
Being Human (2011)
The first 2 episodes are a remake of the UK PILOT
Seems like a number of people commenting about the UK version (negatively mostly) don't know that it started with a pilot that was much different than the rest of the series. A bigger difference than comparing the US to UK version in fact.
The first two episodes of the US version combined are a remake, with a number of changes, of the UK pilot. However, incorporating a lot of the character traits/backgrounds of the rest of the UK series. Anyone having started to watch the UK series with episode 1 missed a very important introduction to the characters. Find the UK pilot and watch it if you haven't. It will add a lot of background for the rest of the UK series as well as provide a better basis for comparison to the US version thus far.
Both series are good. The US version has been a pleasant surprise, I didn't think it would be half as good as the UK version.
I'm more vested in the UK version at the moment, which just started its third season. It will be interesting to see where the US version goes and to find out how many episodes they plan to film per year/season. In the UK it's only 6, which feels rather short.
