Adoration (2013)
I really love Robin Wright and Naomi Watts but don't they read their scripts first?
This movie was wrong from start to end. On the one hand the casting was wrong, on the other hand the story was boring because it lacked conflict. And last but not least the symmetry in the story was really annoying: I would have understood if one mother would have had a thing with the son of her best friend but why needed the other son have the same? After Tom found out about Roz and Ian, what was his motivation to start a love affair with Lil? And why did she gave in? I didn't get it. There could have been more conflict if there would have been only one affair. Then the movie could have build up real tension, because then this affair could have jeopardized the whole friendship between Lil and Roz. Instead both mothers had an affair, both knew about it, both were okay with it and therefore there was no conflict and the whole story became boring. I mean anyway, a drama without conflict is a soup without salt, LOL. But also the symmetry was annoying. After Lil and Roz "let their sons go",they both found girl friends within 2-3 scenes (by the way all developments in the movie were way too fast!), then they both married at the same time, they both had children at the same time (of course girl and girl) and maybe even got divorced at the same time (LOL). I mean it was simply ridiculous and not very believable! At the end as everyone went swimming again, I thought the only thing happening in this movie is, people are going for a swim and lying in the sun! LOL In the third act where you normally expect the resolution (of the conflict of the second act), there was no resolution at all and even if, I wasn't interested in it anymore. At the end where Ian finds out about Tom continuing his affair with Lil and gets angry about the fact that he had to stop his affair with Roz for nothing, this was ridiculous too! I mean he can't blame Tom for it. If he really could not live without Roz he could have tried to start the affair again any time, but he didn't. He married his girl friend and went on with his life. But the worst thing was really the casting! I realized there are only 2 cases in Hollywood when actors have children in movies: either 60 year old men like Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson and others have 4-5 year old children where everybody thinks, omg he could be grandpa OR in the other case (like in this movie), beautiful women like Robin Wright and Naomi Watts in there best ages (45-47) have sons played by 30 year old actors who pretend to be 20, just ridiculous! If you want to make the story believable just pick a 20 and a 50 year old actor, please! LOL I mean in the end when the 45 year old grandmothers play with their 4 year old grand children is really ridiculous and unreal (because as I said normally these 4 year old kids would be daughters not granddaughters - I mean just check out Naomi Watts movie from 2012 "The Impossible" where she has 3 boys, 2 of them being 5 or 6!) I was really looking forward to this movie because I thought wow these very good actresses together, the movie must be good and I expected a lot and then I was very disappointed. Please Robin and Naomi read your scripts more carefully next time or work with people who know what they're doing! This time you didn't, sorry!
Shannon's Rainbow (2009)
The worst movie I've ever seen
Only saw this movie because I like Claire Forlani and Eric Roberts but although I like Eric, I knew before I started watching that the movie would not be good because unfortunately Eric doesn't participates in good movies, so I was warned but wow I could not imagine the movie to be that bad. Worst was the leading actress, she acted so poorly it was unwatchable. And then the awful music and the horrible screenplay. Why does any producer waste his money for such crap? Well it was a waste of my time and I hope nobody else waste theirs (that's why I am writing this review although I never do). Maybe film students can watch it as an example how not to make movies! :-)
Passion Play (2010)
A very beautiful movie
I had very low expectations because the movie was so low rated and Megan Foxx was in it and I wasn't so convinced of her talent so far. But Mickey Rourke and Bill Murray in it made me curious and so I watched it and was very surprised how much I liked it. Until the end where Megan takes Mickey on a flying tour, the movie was a little confusing for me in some parts but then the end reveals what the movie is all about. Mickey flies over his dead body and finally realizes that he is dead. So in the beginning Mickey is not saved by these strange men in white clothes, but he is shot. He is dead but doesn't realize it. He meets his "angel" which needs to fulfill the task of bringing him to the aftermath, but Mickey can't let go of his human life on earth yet. Bill Murray is the force who symbolized Mickey's inability to let go and leave earth, because Bill wants to take away his angel which Mickey needs to travel to "the other side". But Mickey in the end is able to take back "his angel" and finally he is also able to let go of his human life, which is shown in his free will to jump from the roof. Now that Mickey is really ready to go the Angel takes him (now also the Angel is ready, she suddenly is brave enough to fly) and while Mickey sees his dead body lying on the floor, he not only realizes that he is dead but he smiles which means he now can accept it. He learned to fall in love with his angel which was needed to make this journey. In the end everything makes sense and leaves you with a smile on your face. I love this movie, esp. the story, but also the actors, the atmosphere and even Megan Foxx. :-)
