Ogenkikurinikku (1991)
I thought it was funny
I laughed quite a bit through it. To me this was almost a parody on hentai. As far as it being sexist, I didn't think so. Maybe that's because I didn't take it too seriously right from the start. A previous post mentions sexism and that all the women in it have large chests. If you watch any anime (or even cheesy shows with real actors/actresses like Xena!) the women are all well-endowed. Yes, it's ridiculous. Yes, it's unrealistic. The lines are a bit cheesy along with the acting, but the short stories aren't too bad. If you're looking for something erotic to get you excited this is far from it. If you're looking for an adult-oriented farce that'll make you laugh then you might just enjoy it.
I My Me! Strawberry Eggs (2001)
Touching story
I'm not that sentimental about things, but I bought the DVD (2 disk set) and watched all 13 episodes in one sitting. The teacher applies for a job at a school, but the principle and coordinator detest men. They basically throw him out and his landlord is hounding him for rent money. She suggests he dress like a woman and helps him make the changes he needs to get the job. He succeeds and makes a great impression on his students. One in particular takes a shine to him. There is a bit of a love triangle that develops towards the middle of the 2nd disk. At first I thought the story was just silly and entertaining, but towards the end it gets more serious and started to strike chords with me with the 'love triangle' and un-obtainable as I once went through it. I just wish the movie was in English and not subtitled. Other than that this series of episodes is exceptionally done. The artistry is incredible. Kudos to the artists!
Invincible (2001)
This movie was ok
This movie was average. The special effects weren't bad for a tv only movie but I couldn't stand Slate. There was just something about his character that I found annoying like his stupid loony smile. One thing I noticed was Dominic Purcell (who played the character Keith Grady, element Metal). Although he didn't stand out right away, I realized he's the guy that's going to be playing in the new American series "Who is John Doe" (2002).
Reign of Fire (2002)
Better than average, but not the greatest.
I was very excited about seeing this movie before making my way to the theater, but was let down a little. I guess part of it is that they portray an armageddon-like problem (the dragon scourge) that the militaries of the earth couldn't contain but 3 people single-handedly could. It's also hard to imagine that a dragon would be buried under a city for millions of years without ANYONE knowing. How did it get there? Was there a way for it to get out? How did it eat or even breathe?
On the other hand, the special effects were done very well. I've always been a dragon fanatic and to watch them fly and wreak havoc was exhilarating. I remember having a similar feeling the first time I watched "Dragonheart". I have a haunting suspicion there will be a part two since Quinn pulled a dragon egg from one of the slain dragons.
Anyway, if you still feel compelled to watch this movie then go to the matinee and save yourself a few bucks.
Garfield in the Rough (1984)
Question
Did Desiree Goyette sing the songs for all the Garfield episodes? I'm just curious. I remember the voice for the shows, but haven't found any credits for the singing. I did notice, however, that on this site she is credited as a composer as well as an actress.
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)
A must see for Kevin Smith movie fans
I have to say this is my favorite of K. Smith's that I've seen so far. If you liked "Clerks" then you'll most likely enjoy this flick. I look forward to seeing "Clerks: Sell Out" when it comes out, but until then this movie has a high degree of replay value.
