I cannot believe this is not available on DVD or that there is no CD sound track. The music is delightful and the performances are outstanding. WHAT GIVES HOLLYWOOD!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe now that James Edward Olmos is doing the remake of BattleStar Galactica....they will consider putting this on DVD. What do you think..

Amazing

I cannot believe all the bad comments on this movie. It was an amazing movie. The music was incredible. I do not know if Tom Hanks and Paul Neuman actually play piano but it was breathtaking to see them performing together.

While I am not into gangster movies per se....this movie was wonderful. Great performances all round. Neuman was his usual golden self.

I just rented this movie. It was not bad. But I was seriously disappointed it the outtakes. You cannot access them in the bonus material section of the DVD. Instead of just leaving them in the "Bonus Material" section they spaced them through the movie and you had to watch for a pink heart that signified that there was an outtake inserted there. How stupid is that. On top of that the sound lever of the outtake was not matched to the sound level of the rest of the movie. So you have to sit and play with the remote through the whole thing watching for the hearts and turning the volume up for the outtake then down when it switches back to the movie in progress. After the first two I did not even bother. THIS HAS TO BE THE STUPIDEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN. PLEASE JUST LEAVE THE OUTAKES IN THE BONUS MATERIAL SECTION ON THE DVD.

Not bad
23 April 2003
Just watched this on DVD. Did not have a chance to see it at the theater. Have not read the book. I thought it was great. The women and the young women were fantastic. I don't get all the bashing of the movie vs. the book. Seldom are movies that are based on a book ever totally "true" to the book. The movie story has to stand as its own story.

And James Garner is the best. Handsome sensitive.....all man. If you are interested in seeing him in another fine movie....rent "Sunset".

He plays an aging Wyatt Earp acting as consultant on a movie set that is doing a story of his life. Bruce Willis as cowboy actor Tom Mix is playing the younger Wyatt Earp in the movie they are filming. Malcom McD. plays the studio head bad guy of course.

Bette and Dennis are absolutely fantastic in this. They just about explode every scene they have together. The young couple that play the married couple and the photographer are likewise wonderful. They more than hold their own with Bette and Dennis.

Wonderful ensemble of characters.

Whatever

Recently an archive movie review was done on this movie. I remember viewing it some years ago and while I found it somewhat interesting I could not understand all the dialogue. I was excited to find it on DVD thinking that surely it would have had the close captioning added....silly me.

I guess people with hearing loss don't count. Deaf people must be totally out of the loop too.

Now on DVD
10 August 2002
I watched this movie a couple of years ago and wanted to see it on DVD. It is ever as good as it was the first time around. It is really well written. For a story. There have been several movies where the accused runs around and finds enough evidence to clear themselves before the detectives can and manage to elude the police at the same time. Fine acting and a strong score.

A truly horrible viewing experience.

Hopefully some of the people who make movies are reading these things and I have their attention. I rented this movie from Blockbuster. I gave this movie a 10 . It was astoundingly beautiful. I have been a Tim Roth fan since seeing him in "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead". He was mesmerizing. However I wish the Movie Industry would not release these things without "English subtitles for the hearing impaired". I was not able to understand at least 1/3 of the dialog. I had to keep trying to turn the sound up to hear the voices then turn it down because the music was louder than the dialogue. I got the story but I will certainly never purchase this movie.

Beautiful indeed

This movie was amazing. I cant believe Russle Crowe did not get the academy award for this. The score is brilliant and the special effects so nicely done. Subtle, beautiful yet not distracting from the story. I didnt realize what some of them were till I watched the Extras on the second DVD. Ok ok. I can't help it....I just love movies. Ron...you hit one out of the part on this one. Grand Slam.

This was a wild ride. I loved it. I am glad I went to see this on the big screen. The music was beautiful. Dont jump up and leave the minute the credits start. There are "family photos" that are displayed as the credits roll.

MIB is back....just another day at the office.
5 July 2002
I loved this movie. I just saw it today and on the way home on the radio I heard a lot of critics had bad-mouthed it. Thats really tooooo bad. I thought the movie went way to fast. It was over and I still wanted to see more. There is speculation of a third MIB. I would love to see it. Maybe this time J and K will get kidnaped and held for ransom by a big bad bug.

Timeless

I have just watched this on DVD. It is stunningly beautiful. And considering it was made fifteen years ago it is as alluring and appealing as any current fantasy on film. A must see. Lots of extras on the first and second DVD. Particularly interesting is the forest they built on the sound stage.

I loved it
1 July 2002
I loved this movie. I thought Kathleen Turner and Burt Reynolds were great together. Christopher Reeves was perfect. I loved the inventiveness of hiding the criminal in the bottom space of the copier as opposed to the roll top desk used in His gal Friday. I am just sorry that this is not available anywhere. If you liked Burt in this try to find Rent a Cop with Liza Minelli. Forgive spelling error in actors names.

I GOT A QUESTION...or two
20 June 2002
Can anyone tell me what kind of whistle Madmame Hooch has (Glinnis Johns) is wearing around her neck. Why did they recast Snape. No offense to Kenneth Branaugh (a fine actor and I am still waiting for Hamlet on DVD. HOPEFULLY SOME TIME IN THIS DECADE) but I really really liked Alan Rickman in this part. Anyone know?

Wow.... must have missed the History Lesson.
8 June 2002
I have read through many of the previous comments on this movie and I just dont get it. It is a movie based on a book. BASED on a book, not an absolute rendering of history of a time that actually existed. Even Stephen King occasionally alters his storys from the book to the screen play. As for "Anakin's" acting....go back and view the first Star Wars movie Mark Hammil stared in,he isn't exactly Oscar material, Sorry Mark. (I have seen some recent work he has done and he is quite improved.) And if you view the final movie of the original three the whole thing is saved with the assistance of a bunch of furry creatures called Ewoks.

I loved this movie. And the people who were picketing outside the theatre need to get a life. I have been watching magic movies for 40 years. I have yet to hear of someone inspired by such movies to go out and turn someone into a toad. It doesnt work that way in the real world. This movie was pure magic. I was however disappointed in the DVD. The "Special Features" on the first DVD were nothing more that trailers. No featurette. No commentary. No documentary. The second DVD seems to be all games. If you have children they will probably enjoy it.

What's your Dream......
28 May 2002
This is a wonderful Ray Bradbury story. Four men who believe a special suit will change their lives, set upon a plan to purchase said suit, and it does. But is it because of the suit or because they mustered the courage to believe that the change was possible. The fifth man wonderfully played by Edward James Almos is content as he is but gets sucked into the plan and ends up changing in spite of himself. Sid Ceasar and Howard Morris, two fine actors from the golden age television play the shop owners who sell them the suit. Gregory Sierra is too fine for words. Joe Montagna is wonderful in this. Clifton Collings is adorable. And Esai Morales.......you have to rent "The Disappearance of Garcia Lorca" another fine work with Esai. One critique. I am extremely frustrated and disappointed that there is no sound track for this or DVD. The opening song done in English and Spanish is a very fine piece and the songs sung my Esai Morales are very much worthy of a soundtrack. Someone really goofed on that one.

Garcia is so outstanding in this. The movie is beautifully filmed. And as a long time Alan Arkin fan I got a kick out of the "Lou" character. The music is beautiful and Garcia just gets better all the time. Check out the movie "Disappearance of Garcia Lorca" for another fine Andy Garcia work.

I picked this movie up because I was curious to see Natalie Portman in something that was pre Star Wars. I liked this movie. Natalie and Susan were wonderful as mother and daughter. Susan Sarandon is such an outstanding actor. Better and better with every movie she does.

Don't waste my time.

While I can appreciate and respect Alfredo making this documentary to share his passion for Shakespeare I was terribly disappointed that it was nothing more than a documentary. I was hoping that it was perhaps the documentary of an actual production of the play. I was stunned that he had assembled such a stelar cast (who would have guessed that Alec could do do Shalespeare) and didn't actually film the play. For those of us that will never see the inside of a theatre these recent filming of Shakespeares plays are like nectar. I am sorry I ever saw this film because it only made me want to see Alfredo as Richard and now I know that will never be.

This is an outstanding piece. Plots and twists and turns. It has to be seen to be appreciated. James Spader is very fine in this. Spader fans will also like his slightly absent-minded professor character in Stargate.

I would like to know why this is not on DVD yet. It is am amazing piece of work. So many titles that are absolute filth are already mastered to DVD. What is the hold up with this most excellent rendering of Hamlet. I would really like to know.

I loved this movie. I usually rent DVD's at Blockbbuster to play while I am on the computer. I must have played this movie about 12 times. I listened to both sets of commentarys. This movie was fun and Tcheky Karyo melts my M&M's. If you liked this and want to see another great ensenble of UK actors rent "Brassed OFF"
