Pump Up the Volume (1990)
Awesome High School Flick
This is a great flick about high school angst finding its outlet in a pirate radio personality, Happy Harry Hard on. An Arizona high school adopts him as their spokesman. The PTA gets involved when things get serious. One super cheesy character, the perfect daddys girl, is something I got a big laugh out of. Slater is cool, Mathis is awesome. The ending builds to something where most films like it would fall apart sour, but this thing comes off sweet.
Crime + Punishment in Suburbia (2000)
Not Good
I was suckered into watching this because my friend said it was good. The soundtrack is a million times better than this. I can see why a lot of young girls like this movie. The main character is a high shcool girl trying to find her "heart" amongst a group of cartoonishly odd characters and events. The second unit direction stuff, such as the insert and time lapse and still photography shots, are the only reason I give it a 2/10 and not a 1. Ironside is kind of fun, and Barken is always good. Alas, no T or A to be seen here. Everything else sucks, I was praying for it to end. Granted, if I had seen this sophomore year of high school I would have a soft spot in my heart for it, but now its out in a cold cow pie.
Diva (1981)
Not so hot. . .
I saw this the other day, I didn't like it. Maybe if I had seen it closer to the time it came out, but today it doesn't really hold up. What is the vietnamese girl doing on roller skates witht the ultra hip nobody in the bathtub with the miami vice neon lights on the floor? Anything with a woman singing opera for longer than two minutes is not going to fare well with me anyways. So, whatever. Don't get this. Its bad.
