You People (2023)
I dived into this movie blindly.
I was bored, so 'was browsing Netflix movies to find some solace. Noticed this title between the others simply because there was Jonah Hill name written big, it made me curious, "You people", nice title; i was unsure about the topic or the genre, decided to give it a try.
Not knowing what the full cast was before watching made this movie much better than it probably feels on paper, but overall i enjoyed every minute of it.
--- Spoilers ---
The timing. "Revenge... i'm mad!" Eddie Murphy appears on screen with a black hoodie with "fred hempton was murdered" caps-locked on his chest.
I burst out laughing.
From then on it feels like a rollercoaster of well-mixed cringe and comedy.
Duchovny torturing us and Lauren London with a piano while Hills suffer in the background...
Dreyfus whenever on screen...
Andrew Schultz's "I stormed the capitol..."
Nobody can convince me that that line wasn't his own addition to the movie.
I'm a stand-up comedy fan, and that joke was like a cherry on top of the cake. Mike Epps as the weird uncle. Deon Cole as the tron-wedding planner, brief, but exactly my cup of tea.
Please, make more movies like this one. Thanks!
Fräulein: una fiaba d'inverno (2016)
Il cinema italiano che apprezzo.
De Sica così è raro. Lucia Mascino è bravissima.
This movie is a gem; one of those you find when you're not looking for anything in particular and... fall in love with. The complexity of our emotions could easily be described as madness to those who don't indulge; like cosmic events, our emotions and our past could leave us stranded, hopelessly struggling with our daily routine. The solar storm is a very nice setting, which allows the movie to develop weirdness and humour in ways i wouldn't have expected; it is also, probably, a positive way to describe how we can overcome our darkest emotions with just a sparkle of hope for the unknown, the future.
This is a fine movie.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
A superbly executed fantasy show
The first two episodes are out and gave me goosebumps for a big chunk of showtime.
Being the show so expansive you can lose yourself into detail, the sound is superb, the scenes majestic.
Characters are interesting, and the plot thickens minute after minute.
The scale and ambition of this show are great, and within the first two episodes we got a pretty good taste of what epic adventures this show is made of. There's plenty scenes of things that i imagined as a kid while reading silmarillion and the hobbit and the lord of the rings, and it felt spot on, the first two episodes engulfed me in a fantasy frenzy just like when i saw LotR in a cinema the first time. 9/10 will definetly watch again.
To whomever criticize this product i suggest to rewatch the hobbit trilogy, thats what PJ gave us after a taste of money.
The OT is superb, and this show could be a great way to introduce new audience to it.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Disappointing
Quantity over quality might work for income, but not for artistic expression. This show is dry, void of anything interesting, acted poorly, wrote even worse.
If you have kids and want to spend some time with them, this sow is perfect.
If you want to entertain yourself with something even remotely brilliant, skip this trashy product.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
When your trend analysts tell you that your audience is prepubescent crowd...
...you make movies like this; any Peppa Pig episode is wrote better than this magna opus of greed.
Sincerely sad for the cinema industry.
You can literally see the guilt in the face of the actors involved, be it contract obligations or that fat premium check they got for not saying "no, i'll skip this trash"
Don't get me wrong, this movie is perfectly suitable for any bored family who wants to turn off the brain for couple hours, to rest... perfect choice; you won't regret falling asleep and the small goblins you call kids will rejoice watching their favorite dinosaur wrestle like it's WWE.
Definitely a skippable movie.
Elden Ring (2022)
A game from the 90s
I didn't know anything about this game, i bought it because i saw a scene of a guy fighting a dragon while riding a goat.
I never played From Software games before. I'm 36 and the first true open world game i played and loved was Morrowind.
My favorite game is Half-Life.
My favorite ARPG was Diablo II.
After you taste Elden Ring all other ARPGs will have a different appeal.
The experiences this game offers are simply incredible; the map is large and full of jaw dropping vistas and enemies, in a dark gritty gothic style that mixes all the most popular fantasy genres: from The Lord of Rings to Conan the Barbarian, Harry Potter, Berserk, the cosmic horrors of the Chtulhu Mythos (Hastur mainly), Princess Monoke and others.
This game requires you to take a breath from time to time, it pushes players to the limit with many of its challenges.
The controls and the freedom of engagement make the learning curve pretty steep, it feels lime learning how to drive a bike: impossible first try, but exhilarating after you get the gist of it. Its mostly a matter of reading the movements of the enemy and react accordingly, like a musician being directed in an orchestra.
Exploration in this game redefines the standard for open world games, there are surprises and secrets hidden behind every corner.
Replayability is ensured by the vastness of the map and variety of playstyles, not by gambling addiction.
Kudos to the developers.
Halo (2022)
I eat/drink sci-fi
And i'll admit, i like this show. The only part that felt dry was kwan-ha development, which clearly requires s2 to deliver. Very good show, and very good mix of char development and action; all filled with videogame-like CGI which is frankly better than marver-SW. Imho better than Kenobi and Boba combined.
Dune (2021)
Star Wars for adults.
He said this in 2017 after BR49, he delivered. Now part two thanks!
Mr. Robot (2015)
Just finished watching this 40h movie
This *movie* is pretty deep, conceptually. Wrote and acted damn fine. Kudos to all those who took part in it.
If you haven't see it, do yourself a favor. Beware though, this is a movie 40 hours movie, not a television crappy show; this show speak to you, if you want to listen; if you don't... well try anything marvel released and you'll be just fine.
The Mummy (2017)
very good dnd inspiration from this movie
Not bad at all, there's many dnd elements in this movie; it's quite unbelivable that tom cruise starred in this epic b movie. i love it
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
thanks to this show i watched the whole TNG for the first time.
STP is a good show for today standards. is it different from the TNG? yes, and in interesting ways. If old fans dont like it it is perfectly normal. it is clear the writers didnt want to make another installation of the classical ST setup, it had to speak to the new star trek fans, like me. this series shows how the renaissance of TNG is over, how the federation has failed its principles even after the war with the romulans was won. it gives a better ending to the arc of the best characters even if some are missing (and i guess they will appear in the next season, im talking to you LaForge, Worf, Doctorn Crusher, where the hell are you guys? and also Mr Crusher, im sure new installment will complete his super natural arc, if the actor is still alive, Q, i miss you). i saw this show and felt the need to see TNG, the original series, all the movies (which are mostly crap except for the one with kirk) i guess it was well designed then. if old "customers" of ST didnt like it is because once again they wanted TNG s8e1, which will not happen because the 90s are over.
Uncut Gems (2019)
Finally an original movie!
I was bored so turned on netflix and saw Sandler's face in pain with the title of the movie below it, something was weird, so i started it. Best choice i made recently! It's a "different" movie, it's filled with emotions and discomfort, foolishness and arrogance. The music express this very well, and Sandler's performance is incredible; i couldn't belive it, i was enjoying it, i was glued to the screen! Nothing is what it seems in this movie, and made me enjoy it till the end... when that awful music starts and the credits rolls. It is a very well written movie, broke me to pieces! loved it!
6 Underground (2019)
What an incredible action movie!
I knew that this movie would have sucked the day i saw the green alpha romeo driving through my town in the morning, forcing me to change (every morning for a month) my route to work. As usual Michael Bay delivers empty movies full of action. The action is good, the ain't anything else though, you could literally watch the movie in a language you don't understand and wouldn't miss anything important, since all that matters are the boom-booms. Nice boom booms Bay, crazy how people is willing to pay you and your huge crew to make these movies! But it works i guess.
The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)
If you liked Ereaserhead, go on, watch this thing
This movie has nothing to say, it's like an old man mumbling about something not important, but nobody can understand except for the relatives. I liked it, it's more of a travel, a voyage, than anything else. The story telling is very very good, the camera work and music are well manipulated to give the audience a feeling of discomfort throughout the whole movie. There's no story really, what you see minute after minute is a sort of black-comedy about a society where people lies a lot, with a mono-tone voice, saying the most absurd things with no particular connection to the story. It's a weird project, i wonder how and why anybody would pay to produce such a movie which literally has nothing to say. The whole scene of the killing is like borrowed from some comedy movie, i was laughing a lot (like when watching Ereaserhead, which means the movie ain't bad, it's just very dark and creepy for no reason at all). Not a bad movie, but wouldn't recommend it to anyone because most of the people i know would vomit or pass out watching this super weird non-sense-ish movie.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Finally a different sci-fi thriller
I just finished watching it, all i can say it's that i enjoyed in its qualities and its flaws. Some people argue that some characters do stupid things, but they don't consider the context. Nobody is perfect, and sometimes the smart is not the fittest to survive, sometimes all you need is the luck to understand the answer to your problems at the very last moment, despite the fact that the audience might have understood that 25-40 minutes earlier. Finally a thrilling movie slightly different from the rest, thanks to whoever made this.
The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter (2018)
A strange movie indeed.
A nice movie, filled with silly moments of stupidity. A man chases his dreams of reuniting his family, but he's blinded by his egoism. This movie doesn't have a morale, no real grow in characters; they are stupid but have dreams, they chase these dreams and fail, and everything is ok with that, and everything will go on as if nothing has ever happened. Don will probably lose more than he showed. Adorable silly comedy.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
A good sci-fi show with tricks.
This review is based on the first two episodes: It's clear that Disney Star Wars is affecting this show. Might be for JJ? Who cares, at least is different from the original show, more on the line with the recent movies. Colors, design in general, costumes are interesting, a bit less the space skirmishes; overall a good product. Not for real star trek fans, maybe useful to grab new fans from SW audience. Nothing truly original, but at least with some passion in it.
It's a Sci-Fi deep space adventure with logic, plans, action and emotions. A thriller sci-fi?
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
Star Wars is dead! Long live Star Wars!
NO SPOILERS
This movie had few main purposes, from the producers point of view. Those are completely fulfilled.
This movie purposely cut the ties with the original saga.
It's biggest weakness is the producers, you can see which scenes were forced in by those with the money. I would say that a lot of money were coming from a country named China. You could say this movie targeted Chinese customers who are not very fond with the SW original trilogy, and even less with the episodes I, II and III.
The plot choices are not bad, on the contrary, the writers knew they couldn't make something too close to the original feel, so they decided to explore ways that could hurt your expectations. It has great moments that are really enjoyable, considering that we're still watching a Star Wars movie, nothing serious, it's a sci-fi fantasy epic saga in a galaxy far far away... but this time the galaxy doesn't feel so far away, you can clearly see and count each and every "quotation scene" from other movies, from the series "clone wars" and so on. The old magic of the Star Wars universe in my personal opinion has been slightly ruined, still i think this is a proper Star Wars movie, maybe not between the best, but still very enjoyable.
There are though parts were it's clear that they are selling toys, and this kinda hurts my feelings.
All this conflict between the new and the old, is well described in the first part of the movie through the character of Luke.
I liked it, because i entered the cinema with no expectation and strangely no hype, and was a bit stoned (not enough to not see these little details that hurt my eyes and my feelings)
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
A philosophical journey in a dystopian future
I'm a sci-fi addicted guy. I saw all the movies you can possibly name made since 1902 that regard science fiction. I've watched and analyzed Blade Runner for years since i was a little kid, explored old movies seeking spots that could have inspired that movie, and noticed most of the references and analogies in the movies after it. To me, Ridley Scott was extremely lucky to be surrounded by the right people at the right time to achieve such a high quality sci-fi noir movie (the original and final cut versions). Each and every year i hope that some rich talented guy make a movie that can somehow give me the same goose bumps and thrills me with philosophical questions; finally after many many years i've seen a movie that not only entertained me with those, but also delivered some of the most fascinating shots i've ever seen. This movie made me think about our society, about the relations, connections we have with the people around us, with the struggle of any individual to find a purpose, the fight to belong to something. The pace reminds me of those glorious old movies made in the past where every detail had a weight, every expression was a book to decipher. It is definitely not a movie for everyone, it's distant from the style of today for many reasons; exactly like an expansive bottle of Johnnie Walker, some people won't understand the taste and just reject it.

Alien: Covenant (2017)
Not a bad movie
I don't understand why other IMDb users can't appreciate this average sci-fi movie. The plot is kinda interesting, fills few holes left in prometheus, has the proper amount of gory action, a female fighter, super cool color palette, and a dark yet nice main protagonist (David). What did you expect? An original movie? Are you kidding yourself? Alien is 30 years old; the Giger's drawings are maybe 40-45 years old. Why criticize a well packaged Hollywood product of entertainment? It is a nice sci-fi alien-ish movie.
