The Blind Side (2009)
devoted support
'The Blind Side' is a story about an abandoned man who becomes a football player with help from a family. This movie is based on the true story of Sean Tuohy. In this story, the abandoned man named Michael, who is also called 'Big Mike,' lacks enough education because of his family situation, but a spirited woman named Leigh Anne gives protection to him and ensures he will succeed in the future. With kind and warm support from Leigh Anne, he finds football interesting, and gets an education. He gets better and better at both football and studying through daily practicing and teaching by the tutor Leigh hired. Not only Leigh, but also her family come to understand his situation and supported him. Especially, S. J. is cooperative with 'Big Mike.' I think this movie shows his true effort to be a good football player with devoted support from the family. To sum up, I suppose this movie is worth watching if you like sports and family love.
Love at First Sight (2010)
Through the decades
'Love at First Sight' is a story about a man who has dementia and loses his memory every day. In this story, the man, Arthur, lives in a nursing home, and is having breakfast. At that moment, he finds a nice lady named Ruth. He asks his friend who she is, but his friends feel at a loss for an answer. Arthur talks to Ruth, and they get to know each other. They enjoy chatting, and lying down on the grass. After that, Arthur gives her a marriage proposal. They tell about their experience in their youth. From the talk, Ruth notices a secret of Arthur's. The next morning, Arthur gets up and goes to his breakfast. In the end, Arthur repeats what he has done before. Like Arthur's friends, Ruth is taken aback.
However, she accepts him and has a wonderful time. I think this movie shows us eternal love through the decades. I think this movie is worth watching if you like a nice elderly couple.
Two Strangers Who Meet Five Times (2017)
trick of fate
'Two Strangers Who Meet Five Times' is a story about a relationship between men from different racial backgrounds over time. There is an English man and a man who is an ethnic minority. In this story, the English man named Alistair meets with a man named Samir. Samir has trouble with the cashpoint and makes Alistair wait. In the end, Samir doesn't offer a job to Alistair. Years later, the two men meet again as the poor and the rich. Alistair sheds tears because Samir gives him money. None of these three meetings between them is the first meeting. You will find out that they have had an experience to meet far in the past. At the end of the movie, they have an emotional reunion. I think this movie shows their relationship over problems and a trick of fate. In my opinion, this movie is worth watching if you like firm bonds which are made without noticing.
The Lunch Date (1989)
comedy at lunch
'The Lunch Date' is a story about an elderly woman who has to kill time till the next train. In this story, the white woman bumps into the black man who is asking for money at the station. She doesn't let him touch her bags. After that, she goes to the restaurant in the station. She orders a dish of salad and brings it to the table. At that time, she comes across a black man and he is eating her salad unashamedly. He doesn't stop eating it, so she gives up and starts eating it with him. After eating, she leaves him at the seat. However, she notices her bag is not there. On going back to the restaurant, she finds there are her bag and salad untouched. This means what she ate was not hers, but his. I think the movie shows racial relationships. She doesn't want him to touch her baggage, and the black man asks for money. In my opinion, this movie is worth watching if you like a comedy of misunderstanding.
Three Days in Kamakura (2012)
Family Love
'Three Days in Kamakura' is a story about an internationally marriage couple in Kamakura. In this story, they struggle with their relationship with each other because of a particular reason. The husband works at an English school and communicates with many kids. On the other hand, his wife is moping about the house all day long. At that time, the husband takes a boy to their house, a boy who has a complex matter about his family. By coincidence, the boy is hafu so they feel strong affinities with him. By taking care of him, the couple tell their opinion about the boy to each other. After
the discussion, the couple decide to call the police and have the boy's father go to meet the boy. I think this movie is about family love and the difficulty caused by mental health. In my opinion, this movie is worth watching if you want to watch a family-themed story.
Otousan no tabako (2007)
heartwarming
'Otosan no Tabako' is a story about family love. This movie was made in 2007. In this story, an elementary school girl tries to buy tobacco even though she is too young for it. It means she buys it for others, but her mother scolds her for it. The girl can't stop buying it for a special reason. One time, she tries to buy it, but she fails because of vending machine trouble. However, she never gives up trying to buy it. Other than her mother, some characters see her buying it. For example, a high school girl meets her by accident and is told: "You'll die if you smoke." When the girl fails to buy cigarettes because of the machine's trouble, a man tells her off and does not return her money. To sum up, I suppose this movie describes an innocent love for family by the consistent action to buy tobacco. In my opinion, I think this movie is worth watching if you feel like enjoying a heartwarming story.
J'attendrai le suivant... (2002)
Not feel good...
'I'll wait for the next one...' (J'attendrai le suivant...) is a story about love. This movie was made in 2002. In this story, a woman gets sad when she passes a couple. With a sad expression, she gets on a subway train in Paris. There are many people on the train, who have different kinds of circumstances. Some are young couples, others are elderly couples. By looking at them, she gets deeply depressed because she is single.
Suddenly a man gets onto the train and gives a monologue to passengers around him including the woman. In his talk, he says that he is looking for a woman who can sympathize with his views on marriage. Also, he asks them to get off at the next station if they can be with him. Hearing that, the woman decides to do that. However, the man doesn't get off at the next station. I suppose this shows his lack of sincerity in dealing with the woman. In my opinion, I feel uncomfortable and think some viewers may regret watching this.
Lifted (2006)
struggling
'Lifted' is a comedy about two aliens who try to test abducting a man in a house. This movie was made in 2006. There are two aliens, a small one and a tall one. The small one controls the spaceship, but he is clumsy. His control does not make sense, and he fails to bring the man out of the house. Surprisingly, the man didn't wake up even if he was moved roughly by the small one. After all, the small one can't abduct the man, and he becomes sulky. At this moment, the big one can't just stand by, so he lends a hand. However, he doesn't abduct the man in the house. Indeed, he controls the man well, pouring water into a vase, cleaning the house, and laying the man on a bed. In my opinion, I think this movie shows us the importance of trying many times until you give up. The small one repeats one trial and error after another. I suppose this movie is worth watching because the small alien's posture is respectable.
Knick Knack (1989)
A snowman does his effort
'Knick-Knack' is a comedy about a snowman who tries to escape from his snow dome. This movie was first made in 1989. In 2003, it was re-edited and came out as a movie with Finding Nemo. He does all kinds of things, but he fails to escape. Outside of the snow dome, other characters see him doing that. Especially, the snowman wants to talk with a bikini girl, who is one of the characters outside of the snow dome. Every time he tries to meet the girl, he suffers from accidents such as bombing and shuffles with
the stream in the dome. For this movie, in my opinion, it is interesting to watch his efforts to get to the girl. Also, his posture to achieve his goal and to overcome difficulties can be respected because it tells us how important it is to do our best even if it may be hard. In this view, I think this movie is worth watching and people should watch this movie that gives us a giggle.
Fish Out of Water (2005)
Peace with his boat
Fish Out of Water is a comedy-drama from New Zealand about a man who commutes by his boat, which is comfortable for him. This movie was made in 2005. The man spends his commute time comfortably and alone in his
boat every morning instead of a car or train. He rows his boat, enjoying and loving the scenery of the sea from his boat. However, one day his
relaxing time with his boat ends due to a beautiful woman. After that, he needs to carry some people who bother him and annoy him. This irritates him and he changes his way of commuting. In my opinion, this movie shows the man's kindness well and satirizes commuters for using cars and trains. That
is why people eventually gather at one place, where there is a boat in this work. Also, people get in trouble because they rely on other people. I think it is worth watching this movie because the man's acts are remarkable and interesting to counter the passengers on his boat.
