Hardrock (2007)
decent
Lionsgate has made a fortune off of flipping films like this throughout the last five years, it has been a formula that has been so successful for them that you are now starting to see majors following the success of these mini-majors. Normally I have no interest whatsoever in these stereotypical urban films but I happened to see a behind the scenes documentary on the making of this film. It was interesting to see how these young aspiring filmmakers put together a film for what would be equivalent to the cost of donuts on the set most major films. The cinematography and the sound were excellent. The script and acting were below average at best. The actor who played the judge reminded me a bit of James Earl Jones and put together the best performance in this film. I also thought the lead that played Bucky did have that "it" factor although his acting was raw and sometimes not believable. Character actor Michael Wright and Raekwon from Wu-tang have small roles. The filmed bounced around and kept you interested but the story line was not all that original. I wouldn't recommend this film if you want to see a great action film or well-written movie but if you like Indies this movie will keep you entertained for an hour and change.
Blood Diamond (2006)
Diamonds Are 4ever....they'll never leave in the night
Leonardo DiCaprio was very good as the young mercenary. Djimon Hounsou also did a great job. its a film everyone must see. it was educational and entertaining. the films one flaw is its attempt to make it a feel good movie at the end. they could have went another route, but everyone has an opinion. bottom line is DiCaprio is showing the world that he is in a league of his own. More importantly the western world should consider where their BLING comes from, and maybe should feel a little guilty for absorbing ourselves in this MTV culture. even CNN does breaking news on stupid crap like Anna Nicole smith. Its nice to see directors like Zwick and a few others step to the plate and not only entertain but teach.....and not the Michael Moore way that is totally self promoting
Harsh Times (2005)
This filmed rocked
What a great film. CB is the most under rated of our time. i bought the accent, i know some didn't. its hard to watch an actor that is famous sometimes when you know they are speaking different. i wonder what the budget was for this film. it seemed a bit low budget in Hollywood terms. i thought that added to the film as well. I would absolutely tell someone to see this film. The scene where they were trying to recross the board might have been a little over the top but other than that i loved it. it would have been interesting to see the film with a different character playing the role of the Spanish guy. A john Leg..or another white character might have worked better. i always enjoy a movie that doesn't have a happy ending. its just more real
