I Am Legend (2007)
I Am Legend might just be the best movie of the year...
When I sat down in the theater to watch I Am Legend, I anticipated a great movie, and when the credits rolled, the film had done just that. Watching New York with no one there but deer, lions and Dark Seekers is just amazing; however, the CGI Dark Seekers were a little disappointing, but that isn't to say that they weren't scary, and indeed they were. Although the conclusion was a bit erratic, I Am Legend certainly was not, and well worth seeing. Oh, and Will Smith dazzles. Also, in the scene where Will Smith is golfing off of a fighter jet, it makes me wonder and ponder the whole situation; I never knew that a film could do that and it does.
Epic Movie (2007)
Spoof films are becoming very unfunny
Epic Movie is so painful to watch, swallowing a cyanide capsule might be a better alternative. There are four orphans, each of them from the movie The Chronicles of Narnia. This movie begins by showing the audience the background of each character. Lucy is from the Da Vinci Code, Edward is from Nacho Libre, Susan is from Snakes on a Plane, and Peter is from the X-Men Series. First off, none of these films are "epic", they barely take themselves seriously. Then, the four orphans end up recovering a gold ticket for an epic adventure from the Willy Factory (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). What follows is a series of unfunny exploits that tries to spoof Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, Talladega Nights, Casino Royale, Mission: Impossible 3, Superman Returns, Star Wars, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Shrek, Click, Borat, V for Vendetta, Scarface, Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, American Pie and Beerfest. However, if you think it ends there, you're wrong. They also parody Punk'd, MTV Cribs, 50 Cent, and take unfair cheap shots at other celebrities and shows. The film goes from one reference to another, never creating any valid storyline or joke. The characters they do parody end up doing dance routines (Jack Sparrow and Willy Wonka). Friedberg and Seltzer, the duo behind this awful film, need a How To Book on how to Satirize Films-The Right Way.
The Comebacks (2007)
The Comebacks Is Worthless Crap
The Comebacks is a spoof on inspirational sports movies, and let me just tell you-it is not a good one. Tom Brady (the director) probably found it hilarious that referencing sports films (from Gridiron Gang, Invincible and even Miracle! to The Longest Yard and Dodgeball-yes Dodgeball!) and tossing in a couple of sex jokes, would be the funniest thing since Airplane! Well, he was wrong. They did such a slipshod job, you'd thought it was written in a week. I have found it that if a director loves the genre, the movie will be good. Obviously, Brady does not love the genre he is spoofing. This movie is a rancid piece of garbage not worth viewing, so don't see it!
