Keeping Up With The Kandasamys Is a Comedy comedy movie produced in South Africa and released in 2017. It is a feature-length film with a runtime of 1h 35min. "Keeping Up With The Kandasamys" is not currently available to stream in India. Matriarchal rivals of neighboring families, whose young adult children become romantically involved - try despite their best efforts - to keep them apart with hilarious results.
Takes a comedic approach to one of the hidden agendas amongst the Indian population in South Africa but at the same time, also relatable in most cultures globally. Highly recommended to watch.
The Bang Bang Club (2010)
good movie
The pretty good movie that should have been great. Somehow though it just missed capturing the real spirit of the combat photographers, so that I was left feeling kind of meh about the whole experience. Its been based on the true story of four photojournalists who put their lives on the line to capture the fall of apartheid in the late 1990's.
I think the true character of the men just got overshadowed here by the horrors they were shooting and some random, thrown in love scenes. Ryan Phillippe's accent left something to be desired too.
The cinematography is amazing though, violent and vibrant and really made me wonder how they got some of the shots they did. Carter's (Taylor Kitsch) photo of the vulture and the starving child ...Wow! That's not something I'm going to forget anytime soon. 07.13.
Bunny Chow: Know Thyself (2006)
a very nice movie
Most movies made regarding South Africa all centre on the old themes: Apartheid, HIV/AIDS, poverty, the African condition, etc. Bunny Chow, on the other hand, is about absolutely none of these things. It is just a movie, and as in all good movies, theme is subservient to character. What it does show is a few case studies on the new generation of South Africans, who can speak openly about contentious issues such as race in an atmosphere of mutual acceptance an even fascination.
Most importantly, though, is that it is funny. Really funny. Some of the dialogue is absolutely hilarious. Another surprise is the cinematography. Every image and motion bursts with originality. Shot completely in black and white, this comedy has a seriousness that in the end turns Bunny Chow into a pleasure to consider.
