A Most Wanted Man (2014)
Hoffman shines brightest
Probably the greatest performance of Philip Seymour Hoffman in a film. Steals every scene. There was a method to the man. He was a true master of his craft, no doubt. The movie itself is a riveting thriller on intel agencies playing cat and mouse with terrorists, a dead genre now I suppose.
The Problem with Jon Stewart: Media (2022)
Jon the great
This...this is why Jon Stewart's an absolute frigging legend. The absolute precision and moral certitude with which he dismantles the news media is just awesome to watch. This was written, edited, crafted and hilariously presented to such a perfection that I haven't laughed this hard to a late night show in a long time. Salute ye Jon, terrific comeback! An introspective moment ala Jim Cramer for cnn msnbc etc.
Intrusion (2021)
Finished it
There is so much crap on Netflix I never get thru the first 15 mins of that it is worth mentioning I did finish this movie in one sitting. I was curious to know what happens...and it delivered. It is a low budget thriller. As everyone has noted Freida pinto can't act to save her life. Literally. Only an absolute fool or corrupt dude would give her a lead role after this. That she has made a career in acting is mind boggling.
Murder at 1600 (1997)
Not the worst thing you'll see
Razzie worthy performance from snipes and lane. What's snipes doing with his eyes in every frame? It's all over the place. It's as though he's checking both men and women out as they walk away from him. Didn't the director notice? Whoever picked Wesley snipes for this blew it. Diane lane wasted, though the only reason you'd get thru this mud pie. This movie probably wrapped up with first takes. The plot line had great potential and I was expecting an entertaining action movie, instead its a disaster with jarring acting which distracts every minute. And what on earth is Dennis miller doing in this one?
United 93 (2006)
A must watch!
My god! The last 15 mins of this movie alone makes it worthwhile your time. The climax is possibly the most thrilling and at the same time most sad and poignant few minutes committed to film. I was at the edge of my seat and could barely watch. Leaves you breathless. The craft displayed by Paul Greengrass in the final minutes is unmatched in its quality till date. The courage displayed by ordinary people onboard united 93 is to be saluted and remembered forever.
Roman J. Israel, Esq. (2017)
Well deserved Oscar nod for Denzel
Not sure what movie you guys were watching for this stunning beauty to be rated 6.5. Denzel so masterly and movingly portrays a brilliant legal savant of sorts battling his own mind, conscience and contradictions. Found myself deeply affected in so many parts. The writing is memorable with so many great quotes and passages. I don't know why I put off watching this absolute masterpiece. A movie that could change me, perhaps.
Portlandia: No Olympics (2012)
Funny
What's wrong with you people..why no review of this episode? I just lost it when Fred imitated a Scottish shot put lady. This episode could be underrated is all I am saying.
Bad Trip (2021)
A comedic milestone with tastefully done disgusting overtones
Insanely funny movie! Just past the gorilla scene and screaming. Serious laugh out loud stuff. Starts out a bit slow but you need to persevere and get to the good stuff. Just that one gorilla scene is worth it's weight in gold. A much needed, well crafted comedy that even changes your perspective on what's funny and who's the audience.
Heat (1995)
Nothing but respect for Michael Mann
It doesn't take much to realise, over a period of decades, perhaps, that for a whole generation this is the greatest movie ever made. It is crafted to perfection. Every scene is memorable. Every performance is mesmerising. Every dialogue is cheesy and delicious. Pacy and extraordinary music for the ages. If you know who Pacino and De Niro were during their peaks, and are into heist movies, it wouldn't get better than this.
Falling Down (1993)
A Masterpiece!
Michael Douglas produces one of his best performances ever. Absolutely perfect and stunning portrayal of a man in decline with his best years behind him, with no marketable skills to speak off, going on an unusual run of madness through the city. Still fresh and relatable in 2020! Thoroughly enjoyed watching this film.
Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)
Sad yet uplifting
What a brilliant, funny and poignant movie. Truly one for the lost souls! Had me cracking up and tearing up in parts. I am really glad I finally got around to watching it, that too at a point in my life when I am at a dead end. This is one interesting movie not to be missed. Amongst Coen brothers' best.
