Toys (1992)

A Window to Enlightenment
14 October 2012
On the surface I suppose its easy for one to judge this movie as nothing more than an early 90's wacky comedy that lacks depth and meaning. I actually saw this movie in theaters when i was a kid, and quite honestly didn't think that much of it, however, the images always stuck with me for some reason. Watching this film again as an adult, I can honestly say that not only is this a great movie, but it is truly a work of art. To me, this film represents innocence, and what happens when innocence is threatened by forces of destruction. The shots and images in this film are astounding. It feels as If you are staring at a fine abstract painting. The music is well done and only enhances the beautiful imagery. Sure it has its corny parts, but in a way, that's what adds to this film's personality. Overall, this movie will either move you or it wont. If you are someone who only likes big Hollywood movies then you probably wont enjoy this film. If you are an abstract thinker then this may be your cup of tea. Overall, Toys is an acquired taste, however, once acquired you will be staring into a window of enlightenment.

Really?
4 February 2012
I saw this movie tonight and was kind of disappointed. There was nothing really new about it. It was filled with all the same old parlor tricks you've seen in every other horror film. The only thing i liked was the atmosphere. The acting was fine but there was no attachment to the characters. I couldn't care less what happened to them. I did feel that it had potential but it was wasted with overdone and over the top "jumpy" scare tactics. When i watch a good movie, it usually inspires me or somehow changes the way I feel when its over. This film didn't do anything like that. I felt it hit a plateau early on and it just couldn't get any better.

Not really sure how this movie received such high ratings. My guess is that they will drop in the next couple of weeks.

Sucker Punch (2011)

Beautiful in every way
27 March 2011
I normally do not write reviews for movies, however, when a movie has left an impression on me I feel compelled to do so. I actually had high expectations for Sucker Punch and this movie exceeded those expectations. It's not just a bunch of hot girls in skimpy outfits kicking trash and an overabundant amount of CGI. The story is fantastic, easy to follow, and downright original. I can guarantee that the people who do not like this movie are stuck up, and have no imagination, and are probably the kind of people I wouldn't want to hang out with. If you aren't one of these people, then I promise you will love it from start to finish. I can only wish more movies brought such entertainment and originality.

Trick 'r Treat Truly Captures the Spirit of Halloween...its about time.
19 June 2010
Remember when you went trick or treating as a kid and you could feel the eerie magic of Halloween prance up and down your street as you tried your hardest to top off your candy bag? Remember the spooky old house at the very end of that dark road that you were too afraid to go to? Remember those ghostly tales told on Halloween night that made you afraid to walk back home by yourself? These are the elements that Halloween is made of and "Trick 'r Treat" promises to deliver them.

Most horror movies nowadays are nothing more then pointless gore/torture fests or unnecessary remakes. Don't get me wrong, they too have their place in the world of horror, but it is getting rather redundant, and this is why Trick 'r Treat offers a breath of fresh air to the horror movie goer. This film doesn't waste a single scene as each one is a necessary contributer to the intertwined story lines (trust me, It was cleverly done). Both the directing and writing were excellent as well as the acting. The characters were not given much background which only adds to the mystery and lets your imagination take over. Were there any dry spots? No way! Trick r' Treat instantly dives into a pool of terror and constantly injects the viewer with of a feeling of horror anxiety. Sure, there were a couple of moments in this film that everyone has seen in other horror movies before, but It didn't feel like it was stealing those ideas, rather it was paying tribute. The very few predictable moments of the movie do not, in anyway, strip or tear down the value, quality or entertainment of this film. It is sad that Trick 'r Treat never made it to theaters and has become a needle in a haystack, but it's movies like these that are cultivated into cult classics.

Overall, if you love Halloween and you love classic horror movies, then I absolutely guarantee that Trick 'r Treat will easily become one of your new favorite horror films. There hasn't been a movie that has captured the spirit of Halloween so well as Trick 'r Treat.
