Everwood (2002)
Very promising, I'll keep watching
Has anyone reading this ever seen "Alaska". This show is strongly reminiscent of the beginning of that movie. "Everwood" is a great new show that is about family and growing up, without resorting to cheesiness or alienating us viewers who just want to be entertained, rather than taught a lesson. It has sucked me in despite its stereotypical premise. I am especially invested in the son's character and his relationship with the town doctor's kids. It should prove to be an interesting season, since the show is not selling out and hooking up the attractive teens right away. I'll keep watching.
Crime + Punishment in Suburbia (2000)
Great acting, story, film
This film sets a tremendous mood right away of a darker side to the suburbs. This is a common film element, but this film is right up there with David Lynch in its success. Monica Keena is, as always, fantastic in her portrayal of the confused and hurting (dying) popular girl with secret problems, while Vincent Kartheiser is amazing as the force that will ultimately save her. Every character in this film was sympathetic in some way (except the football coach, but hey), even the abusive father was complicated and not a 2 dimensional cop-out. You find yourself feeling bad for even Jimmy, the dumb but loyal jock boyfriend who just can't compete with the closeness that Vincent and Roseanne have. An amazing and thoughtful film that could turn trite at every turn, but manages to rise above.
Cherish (2002)
great story and great music
This was a brilliant film! It had a sort of "the soundtrack of your life goes wrong" thing going on. Robin Tunney was brilliant, as always, as was the rest of the cast. Some classic Jason Priestley moments- the tear!! I highly recommend this. Amazing film.
