Grease (1978)
Grease is the word, is the word, that you heard!
1 January 2003
i just love this musical! But then, I'm a sucker for musicals, so that may not tell you much. Grease will have you singing along by the second verse of nearly every song, and the 'Thunder Road' scene will have you wondering, 'Who will win!?!?' (And probably also 'How the heck can they allow people to have spikes on their tires like that!?!?') To sum it up in a few words:

'Grease is the word, is the word, that you heard! It's got groove, it's got meaning... Grease is the time, is the place, is the motion, Grease is the way we are feeling!'

Pure Awesomeness.

Okay, first of all, I must say: I just got back from seeing the movie in a city two hours away, it is 10:00 PM and all the blood has gone to my legs, so don't blame me if this review gets a little... wacky.

That having been said, I think the movie was superb!

I had read Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson (Woohoo!! Go RLS!! *Waves a little flag*) a year ago and it quickly became one of my absolute favorite books, so needless to say, when I saw the trailer on the latest(well, THEN it was the latest) Disney video, I was thrilled. The trailer rocked too, I might add. I just loooovvee those fast-moving, adrenaline-inducing trailers, yep I do.

And I was not disappointed. Treasure Planet is a wonderful mix of everything, and sticks to the book as well as I think it was able to. It has action, adventure, a few sad scenes, and even *Gasp* *Whispers* Romance. Just a little, near the end... You'll see. *Stifled giggle*

The characters were great. I can't very well use the word 'Charismatic', as I am all too unsure of the meaning, but I'm positive that when the other reviewers said it of Captain Amelia, Jim (NOT JACK as another reviewer said), Doctor Doppler et. al, they were right! Emma Thompson as Captain Amelia was fantastic; I believe the voice suited the character well, as did David Hyde Pierce's as Doctor Doppler. Jim was great, Long John Silver's voice was on-the-dot! Just as I'd imagined it, accent and all ^-^

Overall, this is a great film for the whole family, although some of the younger kids may get scared a little, once or twice. I give it 9 out of 10, and that only because nothing can be perfect!!

Oh yeah, does anyone else think that 'Captain Amelia' might be a play on 'Amelia Earhart'? I was just thinking a while back and it occurred to me... *Shrug* Maybe?

Bunny (1998)
*Sniff* So sad, yet great.

Warning: Spoilers
The story is so sad!! ;_; Basically, for those of you who don't know and thus think it's lame, it's about an old widowed rabbit who gets mad at a moth in her kitchen after having some sad thoughts about an old wedding photo of hers. The moth is an angel and is trying to get her to come join her husband. She eventually gets mad and

*****SPOILERS!!! SPOILERS!!!*****

bakes the moth in a cake. (Although she didn't intend to in the first place.) The moth opens a portal to Heaven (or so I think) and Bunny follows it. The ending is so sad as they show a close-up of the wedding photo and the figures move and-- *sob* --is so touching!!

*****SPOILER END!!! SPOILER END!!!*****

Sorry, but, being a Pisces, I am very emotional *Cry* and this was so sad, in a way... but that is no reason for you not to see it! It is sad in a good way, and the animation is brilliant! The characters and everything look like clay or puppets or something but the animation certainly flows like computer technology and that is what makes it great!

So see the short, smile, (almost)cry, and be amazed. 8/10

Amazing!

Warning: Spoilers
First off, to know the comment, you must know the commentator(or whatever the heck that's called): I am twelve years old and an avid Harry Potter fan. I went to see the movie in costume, and am pretty darn dang proud of it!

Secondly, I thought the Harry Potter film was superb. For those of you who think somewhere along the lines of 'Too much, too soon, too long time, AAAARRGH!!' when referring to the movies, I say that's how they wanted it to be, and if you didn't like this one very much, then don't go see the next one! There, problem solved! Also, if they didn't include everything possible from the book, then many fans (who quite outnumber the 'too much, too soon' people, I'm afraid) would be miffed. I was surprisingly angry when they cut out Hermione's scene from the first movie (any fans out there will know what I'm talking about).

Now, about the actual movie: It rocked! I thought the flying car scene was done superbly, and the scene with Aragog and the giant spiders had me and my brother on the edge of our seats! The Quidditch scene, as promised, was much more exciting than the first one--the characters looked much more connected to their backgrounds--but Moaning Myrtle's voice was IRRITATING!! And Shirley Henderson is, what, 37???? Myrtle can't be older than 17 to have been going to Hogwarts when she was killed by the-- whoop, almost gave out a spoiler there... Anyway, I'm not saying that Ms. Henderson is a bad actor, it's just that the role could have been played a helluvalot better by my nonexistant goldfish, who, needless to say, has had no previous acting experience.

I thought the whole Parseltongue thing was a bit... overblown, I think, but I do wish they would publish learning guides for it... forget Spanish, I wanna learn Parseltongue!!! LOL.

Overall, I give it a 9/10 ^_^

*Singing* Quidam, Quidam... la nuit recule... d'un reve a lautre tu valses.....

sorry, I just can't stop singing the song (I have the soundtrack and know the words).

Anyway, I saw the show a while back, and it just blew me away. Everything was so bright, colorful, graceful, dramatic.... I can't explain. Just read the other comments and watch it when you can. Trust me here, it's AMAZING.

Eddie Izzard: Glorious (1997 Video)
Make sure you use the restroom before watching....
24 October 2002
Gosh, how do I summarize something like this??

"(Eddie, as the Greeks leaving the Trojans that wooden horse)Goodbye! We give up! You win. We've left you a huge (BLEEP-off) horse...as per usual...."

That was from the Trojan horse part! One of my favorite quotes.

But really, how does one summarize the work of Eddie Izzard?? It just seems too funny for words, you just have to see the video. But let me leave you with this:

(Singing) "Bum bum bum bum bumm, I am a GRAN! I live forever....."

Don't ask, just watch the video.

Sphere (1998)
Read the book instead.
24 October 2002
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, where should I start off... I am a kid, and have read the book by Micheal Crichton. A few days ago I rented the movie (having been clueless to the existence of which until that moment) and, yesterday, sat down to watch it, great expectations.

Boy, was I disappointed. Having thought the book was amazing, I went to the video store thinking, "They'd better not have changed a THING," even though I knew that it couldn't be done. But honestly, the movie took my expectations and buried them in the middle of nowhere!

First of all, some MAJOR inconsistencies to the book! I know, as a complete book-to-movie viewer, that you can't keep everything true to the book, but REALLY. I don't want to bore you with all my nitpicking, so you might as well skip the next paragraph. Thank you.

*****WARNING: HERE BE SPOILERS!!DON'T READ THIS PARAGRAPH IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK/SEEN THE MOVIE!!!!*****

Okay, first of all, Norman's (Hoffman) last name is Johnson, NOT Goodman. It's Beth HALPERN, not HALPERIN. I understand if for some reason, Mr Crichton wanted the names changed, but otherwise, the people should at LEAST be able to keep the names right! Two of the characters, Tina Chan and Levy (if you've ever read the book, you know who I mean), are missing ENTIRELY. Teeny Fletcher did not die first due to jellyfish, it was Jane Edmunds. Levy was found where Edmunds is in the movie, and Fletcher just off and disappeared along with Barnes. Of course, they were both dead too. Tina died during the fire, Ted was dragged into the ocean by the giant squid.

Okay, sorry I just had to lecture you all there, but honestly, I see no reason that they couldn't have kept those little consistencies. I mean, TWO MISSING CHARACTERS?? Come on.

Anyway, that put aside, the acting was so-so. I think Sharon Stone was great as Beth; She was just as I had imagined from the book (Although I was disappointed that they didn't include her slightly deranged "Norman, don't get near the habitat!! I have explosives rigged up all around here, Norman, don't come any closer! You'll die, Norman!! Die!!" speech at the end.). Dustin Hoffman was okay as Norman JOHNSON (But I guess that rating is from my imagining him before as something like my old science teacher, especially with all the psychology speeches) The character of Harry was great, Samuel L. Jackson did a great job.

Overall, I had a good time with this movie, although it didn't NEARLY live up to my expectations. If you haven't read the book, you might find it interesting; if you've read the book, don't bother; it will be a disappointment.
