Rent: Filmed Live on Broadway (2008)
On behalf of those of us who never had the chance to see it on Broadway, THANK YOU!!
This has to be one of the best DVDs I own. Having not even heard of Rent until the movie came out, I never really knew the story until 2005. It was a great idea to do the movie and an even better idea to release the final Broadway show on DVD. It is making it possible for those of us who only learned of Rent late in the game or for those of us who were too young when it came out or for those of us who don't live in or visit New York to see this amazing piece of theatre. The cast did a great job and Jonathan's beautifully written story will live on in this performance. This story is the heartwarming tale of eight friends, with various issues, including some main ones of living in poverty and the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The music is incredible and it's not all "showtunes" but rather, it is a combination of various styles, including rock, gospel and pop. It makes a statement and it warms your heart. It takes a couple watches of Rent to fully understand the story but once you do, you're captured in its magic for life.
Milk (2008)
Might as well give Sean Penn the Oscar now..
I saw this at an advanced screening and wow, I was very impressed. This movie was clearly very well thought out and very well planned. All the actors were AMAZING, especially Sean Penn. It had everything you could ever expect to see in it - moments that make you cry, moments that make you think, moments that shed light light on a moment in history and some that do all of those. I liked how they incorporated real footage with stuff they filmed, especially in certain parts. It was a serious movie but I liked the comic relief that they included. I would strongly recommend people see this movie because its rare a movie this good, with a story that strong comes along.
Hairspray (2007)
You can't stop my beat!!
I was so impressed with this movie!!! I mean I'd heard of Hairspray the musical 2 years ago when I got the soundtrack from a friend and from then on I was in love!! When I heard they were making a movie last fall I'm like I have to see this!! I nearly drove my family insane by being so excited and checking this IMDb often. Finally tonight I got to see it and the wait was worth it!! Perfect casting!! John Travolta was the best Mama and he sure danced up a storm. Another thing - the choreography was perfect too - absolutely amazing on everyone's part. A couple of the songs weren't how I pictured they would be in my head but they still worked out amazing. Now cutting a musical down to a movie means there has to be some song cutting but I think they did it in an effective way and a couple of them appear in the credits and on the soundtrack from what I understand. The movie kept me laughing the entire time, except during one song(which I won't say here) made me almost come to tears. A really great movie that I can't wait to see again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again.....
Reba (2001)
Real southern humor anyone can get
Well what can I say? Reba is the funniest show on television and every episode is always jam packed with the best humor and entertainment out there. The show started with everyone's lives getting all messed up, for the good and but mostly the bad. Yet I love the way the characters have handled the situation. In the end, everyone's all friends. Reba and Barbra Jean(BJ) make the perfect team, whether they're fighting or plotting together it's always great. Reba just happens to be Brock's ex and BJ's new husband. Then there's Reba and Brock's kids, who are just as funny. There's Cheyenne, the oldest daughter who got herself pregnant and married at 17. Her husband Van is hilarious, especially since he's a typical dumb football player, who's always getting outsmarted by Cheyenne's younger sister Kyra. Now Kyra is probably the most intelligent one on the show next to Reba herself. And last but not least, there's little Jake, who's just trying to figure things out in a humorous way. Have I mentioned this program is my favorite?
The Elizabeth Smart Story (2003)
I was truely amazed
This was one really good movie to put it simply. It is about the whole Elizabeth Smart story from when she was kidnapped to when she was rescued. The portrayal of the characters was really good. I liked how they showed Elizabeth with Brian David Mitchell and his wife Wanda with good detail yet still keeping it as a reasonable level. This was a really good movie and I am so glad I taped it. I have had people borrow it from me and I have received nothing but good thoughts about it. A really well made movie.
Anger Management (2003)
Great Movie!
I must say this is one heck of a great movie!!! It was funny and I thought Buddy's ways were different but unique. I strongly recommend seeing this hilarious film. And also, a note to any soap opera fans out there, more specifically The Young And The Restless fans, Don Diamont(Brad) makes a small but neat appearance! I give this a 9.5 out of 10!
The Thirteenth Year (1999)
Good for mermaid fans not seeking porn
A friend sent me this movie because we both like mermaids. I thought it would suck, but I loved it! If there are any mermaid fans out there, you know how hard it can be to find mermaid videos without any porn. This is a great movie for teens especially who have an interest in movies. Plus the guy who plays Cody is kind of cute!!! Also if you've ever watched Full House you will reconize the father. Its Joey and he is really good in it. Now mind you, hes not as funny as when he was on Full House, but hes still pretty good.
That Thing You Do! (1996)
Old Music loved by New Generation!
I can't believe I am giving a review for a movie like this, when I am 14. No one I know likes old stuff and I am not saying I do. Anyways the other day, one of my teachers played this movie and everyone thought it would be boring. But all 26 of us were up and dancing to it. I love the song "That Thing You Do"!!!!! I just downloaded it last night and I can't stop dancing to it. The movie is really good and along with some comedy is also a very real situation. It was a really good movie and I look forward to actually buying it sometime in the near future!
