La mala educación (2004)
Something is rotten in La Mala Educacion
I came out the theatre with mixed feelings. On the one hand there is no doubt about the genious and great talent of Almodovar as director, writer and film-maker. He structures the story in a way that captivates the spectator, he directs Gael Garcia Bernal to one of his most solid characters and he cheats the audience for almost an hour. But when the end comes, you sudden realise there has not been a true story and the artifact we have been watching becomes really fragile. The
nakedness of the story shows its feeble plot. You feel deceived rather than
cheated, and that really makes a difference with his previous films. A second analysis makes us, the audience, realise that intertextuality becomes selfcopy (references to Laberinto de pasiones, Todo sobre mi madre, Hable con ella...) and that when Fele Martinez says he is a director with no ideas, it is Almodovar himself the one who is speaking. Watch it on video, and make up your own conclusions.
El secdleto de la tlompeta (1995)
The BEST 18 minutes in Spanish Cinema History
"El Secdleto..." is much more than a short film, it is simply the funniest and most incredible film I have ever seen in my entire life: Pure genius, pure entertainment, pure magic... Words like hilarious come to my mind if I had to define the film with one word. I tell you this is a bright and clever film, so amazing that will rock you from the very first minute. The only thing against it is that it is almost impossible to watch it, so if you have the opportunity DON'T MISS IT!!!
