Cenizas del paraíso (1997)
About family
This is basically a movie about family relations: brother with brother, father with son.
Judge Makantasis and his three sons get along so well you can almost feel it as the movie goes on. The scene where all the four dance in the Greek way shows us how well based are the love and caring from one to the others.
Loyalty among brothers, because of a girl. Loyalty with their father, and how their world goes upside down when he dies.
I think is genial the way the director shows the story in a non-chronological order, dividing it in as many parts as brothers. It makes you understand each one's motivation.
A movie about family, fathers, sons, brothers, love, loyalty, sacrifice.
Bolivar soy yo (2002)
Just excellent
I've seen this movie twice in a week.
I think Jorge Ali Triana, the director, is a genius. He says things he feels, but said through Bolivar mouth. It's an impact seeing Simon Bolivar addressing to the presidents, in a very hard way, telling them his ideals had been taken in a wrong way, using his name in schools that teach nothing, in guerrillas made for killing brothers, in institutions using corrupted ways to get their goals.
I must add I consider myself as a San Martin follower, but this movie has made me change a little bit my opinion about Simon Bolivar, his fight and ideals, and the way he stand for his principles.
To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)
Atticus Finch: my favorite character
Contains Spoiler No doubt about it. Atticus Finch, my favorite character ever.
I confess myself as a book worm, and I've read the book and seen the movie. Both made quite an impression.
And I think Atticus Finch is a hero in his own modest way. A widower raising two kids, on his own, in such hard times, teaching them how to make "what's right", in spite of everybody's else opinion.
You can feel how respected he is in Maycomb. Respected the same by the white and black communities, always a gentleman. How Reverend Sykes tells Scout to "stand up, because you father is passing" is so breathtaking. Even though he lost his case, and Tom Robinson had got a guilty verdict, although all the evidences showed he was an innocent man.
And you can also feel his disappoint when he's told Tom was shot as trying to escape.
I definitely think we'd live in a better world with more Atticuses in it.
