Scarlett (1994)
Great movie, weird ending
I liked this movie very much. I was sitting on my couch for six hours straight just watching it, waiting to see what would happen between Scarlett and Rhett. I like the way the movie brought us around in different places of the world.
The few things that bothered me was that I did not find that they stayed true to Scarlett's character very much. And the fact that Rhett married that awful woman, I detested her. What was up with Suellen and Scarlett though, that was weird, they are not supposed to get along. The ending was disappointing, I did not expect it to end that way.
I did like Joanne Whalley performance though, she was wonderful in the movie. And Jean Smart was great, she had a wonderful role in this movie.
Well, it was a good sequel. Great for GWTW fans, but that ending...
Laugh, Clown, Laugh (1928)
Heartfelt Romance
This film definitely must be one of Chaney's best. His performance is remarkable as the aging stage-clown who has the misfortune of falling in love with the abandonned orphan(Loretta Young) who he took in to care.
You can feel his love for Simonetta and you can't help weeping because he doesn't want to feel this way for her, but he can't help it. I think that if the Oscar were around that time that he should have been nominated for best actor.
The only misfortunate thing is Loretta Young in the part of Simonetta. She is only 15 at the time and even though her performance is great and she is as beautiful as ever, she has a childlike spirit that isn't suited for the part. She in body looks 15 instead of 21. But I truly recommend true movie fans to watch this, it's amazing.
The Scarlet Letter (1926)
One Of The Best Versions Ever
I love this film for everything that it is. The story, the acting, the direction, everything about it is great.
The story revolves around Hester Prynne(Lillian Gish) and her love for the Reverrend Arthur Dimmesdale(Lars Hanson). Poor Hester is marked with the 'scarlet letter' when she gives birth to her lovechild with the bishop, and the bishop suffers on his own as his heart begins to fail on account of the guilt he feels.
The orchestration of this film helps a lot because the wonderful music helps you follow the story more and bring intensity. I love Lars Hanson's performance, he has the perfect profile for love scenes.
