Scared to Death (1946)
bored to death
Bored to death is really the best I can say about this movie.
I didn't really expect a good film, I was just looking for a way to kill some time. Well, I should have done something else.
Although this movie is enlisted as "Mystery / Thriller", I found no thrilling elements. There was some mystery in it, but then again, in most cases, it was only a conglomeration of supposedly mysterious elements - that were not that mysterious. In other cases it was simply pointless and didn't contribute to the plot or it was just inexplicable nonsense that didn't have any connection to the plot.
To sum it all up: the acting is OK, so is camera work and so on. However, the plot is just...stupid and I was not once thrilled or scared while watching this.
If, one day, you have nothing else to do, you might be tempted to watch this movie. I suggest: do something else.
A Thief in the Night (1972)
heap of bull...
As some other comments show, this movie might scare you, when you're a little child. (And that is probably all that it is good for.)
However, if you're older, this movie only does one thing: suck majorly -and thereby I don't mean the acting, its soundtrack, cutting or s.th. like that. I'm simply talking about the "plot" (if you can call it that).
SPOILERS ahead ------------------------
I don't want to give any more spoilers than necessary (if after reading this, you really still want to watch this movie) but if you graduated from any school, this is just a big insult of your intelligence. When watching this, I was stunned most of the time, because what was happening was just THAT stupid.
This includes:
-the forming of UNITE (an evil UN-association)
--> we are just supposed to believe it's evil. is it even evil at all? if so: why is it evil?
-the mark of evil in the form of a tattoo
--> there is no necessity to impose this on the people, so why the hell (no pun intended) are they doing it?
-inviting Christ to your heart merely as lip service
-->because there's nothing anybody, who in this movie is considered "a real Christian", ever does, besides saying that stupid prayer. so...just say that prayer before the rapture and you're saved - no matter what?!
Thus, rating 1/10
Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
simply excellent!
Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a movie that is simply excellent in all the ways a teen-comedy-movie can be. Sympathetic characters, good story, funny jokes that aren't too predictable, good acting and a really great soundtrack, too (I was really amazed)...the list goes on and on.
I am especially fond of the way Ferris sometimes looks directly into the camera and you feel like you're really part of what's going on.
To be honest, I watched it for the first time a few weeks ago and even though the movie is as old as I am, I didn't find it boring in any way and neither did I think of it as an "old" movie.
To conclude: even today, after almost twenty (completely unnoticeable) years have passed, this movie is awesome!
Der 90. Geburtstag oder Dinner for One (1963)
Great movie
Well, in my opinion this is just a great movie, even though it s rather old...what can I say...it is just perfect. I watched it about 5-10 times (and I only discovered it half a year ago) and still I can laugh...and it cheers me up. It also is a good party / new year's eve movie, I think.
Everybody should watch this at least one in their lifetime...or you'll miss a true masterpiece of cinematic work.
Hm, I guess there's nothing more to say, really...you gotta watch it. But in order to make this comment fit the IMDb guidelines...I had to add this last line.
Knockin' on Heaven's Door (1997)
GREAT MOVIE
This movie is great, it should have been translated into English. It's often compared to Pulp Fiction by Quentin Tarantino. I can understand that to a certain point because it contains witty dialogues like Pulp Fiction but it combines them with tragic and still has it's funny moments.
And because of it's tragedy it makes you think, unlike Pulp Fiction (now don't get me wrong folks, I just LOVE that movie). The effect holds on and you wonder: what would I do, if I knew I'll die within a week or a month,... (some very short time period)
One of the movies, that you can't just put in one genre, it's more than that. Brilliant.
Pulp Fiction (1994)
One of the best films ever!!!
This is -next to some other films in which Tarantino participated- one of the best films ever. The dialogs bite, they are unique, funny,... just brilliant. PF is not as violent as it seems when you watch it the first time, but if you don't like offensive content you shouldn't watch it, anyway. You have to watch it if you don't want to miss one of the last decades' landmarks! It is amazing how Tarantino manages to delay what is coming up next- without getting boring. Each and every single scene in this movie is just right. No scene is too long, no scene is too short. My statement: Quentin give us more of that kind of movie!!!
