S.W.A.T. (2003)
Screw critics...popcorn-chewin', high-shootin' fun!
Granted this kind of film doesn't take a rocket scientist (like Coppola or Stone) to direct, this movie delivers what we go to see...the "ooh" and "watch out!" moments that make movie-going FUN. Realistic and chocked with punchy, scoff-worthy laughs and little triumphs, I saw this movie three times and intend on adding it to my action-adventure collection...because apart from "The Godfather" and "Nixon" and such, this is the kind of movie that you watch with friends. Shouldn't all movies be watched on a friendly basis? I think so. SO bust out the Orville Redenbacher for this one, its a fun thriller for you AND your friends! And major props to the REAL S.W.A.T. cops who inspire this movie and risk their lives to serve and protect. These are everyday heroes, and honestly, this film shows them as heroes.

Underworld (2003)
A masterpiece of the fantastic world of the night!
This film was a masterpiece of the fantastic world of the night. The special effects used to portray this world were particularly impressive. The only reason that would keep me from giving it a full vote of 10 would be, with my knowledge of this world from my obsession with it and research of it, there were two obvious flaws in small detail. One being that a vampire, according to legend, has no reflection and also no heart beat; both of which were included in the film. Beyond that, I have only praise for it! The acting was also some of the most outstanding I've seen and I do not believe the film could have been casted better! According to my research, vampires are supposed to be beautiful creatures, and wow, were they gorgeous in this movie. They definitely brought beauty to the dark side of life!
Kimberly (1999)
Stroke! Score! Swoon!
Whatever the popular opinion of the ancient sport of rowing and wooing may be, this movie definitely scores! Gabrielle Anwar (from 'The Three Musketeers' and Disney's 'Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken') stars in a funny, uplifting chick-flick about a young, Englishwoman pursued by four men who compete together on the same crew team. In their own, unique fashions, they capture her romantic attention and suddenly find themselves wondering...who's the daddy?? For those crew fans out there (like me) and sappy-movie patrons (and I know you're out there), this movie crosses the finish line with an easy stroke.
Newsies (1992)
Carry the banner!
I'm 19 years old in college. I sing the music from this movie on my way to class. And people stop me and say "that's from 'Newsies!' I love that movie!" How many times do you get that kind of response? This movie was exciting, well-choreographed, and funny. It has the best ingredients a musical could have. The best part...you can find this stuff in the history books (well, maybe not dancing newsboys and Robert Duvall playing Joseph Pulitzer...but nobody's perfect...except Christian Bale). See it, love it, brings the kids. They'll want to carry the banner after the movie's long over.
3 Ninjas (1992)
Hiya! and Hiya!
This, without a doubt, is the KING of "back-in-the-day" fun stuff. Its "The Goonies" for the 90's, and, well...sure kicks butt compared to "Home Alone." Did you cheer when he rolled down his own stairs in a sled? Not exactly. Of course who wouldn't cheer for three kids taking down a six-foot, two hundred-plus pounder henchman (who's really posing as a light-up dummy)? Even though slightly unintelligent...plot remains solid with sharp humor and on-your-feet fight scenes. Yet, its not exactly Bruce Lee...but did you ever see Bruce Lee kick butt at age 13? See the movie. It's definitely some high-kickin' fun.
The Virgin Suicides (1999)
Truth, Beauty, Freedom, Death.
I've heard various comments, some good, some bad, about this film since it's release. Quite honestly, no comment about this film deserves to be negative in any way. This film was a gorgeous interpretation of the shattered lives of five, beautiful, intelligent, intriguing teenage girls and their impact on five respective young, naive, innocent boys. Sofia Coppola's remarkable, dreamy filmmaking makes for a compelling, heart-wrenching story that should be an integral part of every teenage, much less, mass collection. It is not a drama...it is a documentary of our own lives and how little we realize that we take it for granted.
