Painful!!
21 March 2005
Siouxsie Sioux proved she can't really sing in tune live in Nocturne (where she was flat the whole way through). Unfortunately, 15-odd years down the track her range seems more restricted and she struggles up towards the notes from underneath without really getting there - it's really quite painful to listen to unless you are also tone deaf.

The first song is atrocious with Severin, the guitarist and Sioux playing, seemingly, in a different key and tempo the whole way through - surely with their back catalog they could find something better than that.

Don't get me wrong, I do like their earlier music but, unfortunately the glory days when John McGeoch (RIP) was a member are a distant memory. I'll stick to listening to Juju myself.

A Shocker all right!!
20 May 2004
Yes, this film is truly shocking, but not for any gore or scares - it's just plain terrible. First of all, it isn't particularly gory and it certainly isn't scary - you'll get more of both in the remake of Texas Chansaw Massacre which is vastly superior to this trainwreck of a movie which is even more disturbing when you consider how bad that one was as well.

The acting is uniformly terrible - clearly most of the 7,000,000 budget went on..... that's a good point, what did it go on? Sheri Moon stands out as being particularly bad, however, they are all so terrible it's probably not fair to single her out. Karen Black should know better and it shows just how low an actor can sink without resorting to hardcore porno movies - incidentally, what was the point of the 50's stag films loops that kept popping up? The special effects certainly aren't special, the sets wouldn't rate above average.

The script is awful and the story isn't much better - how could a movie with a character called Doctor Satan be so bad? Some reviewers have commented on the last 15 minutes being "terrifying" - well, not only is it not terrifying, it's not even vaguely scary - the thing carrying the ax chasing the girl at the end is laughable and the collapsing tunnel supports disabling it was as pathetic as it obvious.

Over all, it seemed like a really, really, really long boring music video (some of the music was OK - but if you like industrial style music and blood/gore buy 'Ain't it Dead Yet' by Skinny Puppy and you'll get better in both respects)

Zombie is clearly strongly influenced by the original TCM, but doesn't have the talent to come even close (mind you, what other decent movies has Tobe Hooper made?). He tries to be creative with continual and multiple film effects and cutaway shots, different film stocks etc, however, it just looks like a real mess and comes across as someone who has just bought their first Mac with Final Cut and tried to use every effect that comes with it - Zombie should stick to drawing where he has some talent, but as a writer and director, he is utterly abysmal.

Don't be fooled that this wasn't released for three years because of rating worries - clearly the studio saw what an absolute stinker this film is and figured that the only way they'd convince anyone to see it would be if they held it back because it was 'supposedly' too extreme - well it ain't.

Another nail in the coffin of modern horror films (pun intended) 0/5

Great movie, great soundtrack
26 November 2003
Warning: Spoilers
I ended up seeing this after I couldn't get into American Pie 3 (which in itself was a blessing in disguise as the latter was awful). I won't outline too much of the plot at the risk of spoilers - two guys get lost in the middle of New Zealand in the night, run into a collection of people who are not what they seem etc etc. Its not really a horror film (very little violence or blood), nor is it really scary - it's more of a chiller along the lines of The Others or Sixth Sense. Obviously made on a small budget the film makes up for it with a great (if slightly predictable story) and great soundtrack. Totally recommend this to those sick of overblown, overhyped Hollywood trash

Painfully unfunny
8 September 2002
This was without a doubt one of the least funny "comedy" films I have ever seen. I sat though nearly an hour and a half of this drivel waiting for all the hilarious scenes mentioned in other reviews - I saw them, but just can't see why people thought they were so funny. It was by turn predictable, boring, badly acted,

irritating - and that was just Sandler (who is without a doubt the most over-rated and least talented "comedians" I've ever had to suffer through). Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against moronic or vulgar humour, but only if it is funny and this certainly isn't.

Why Sandler is so popular is a complete mystery to me, he can't act (unless

doing a bad voice impression of Eric Cartman from South Park counts as acting nowadays), he has no discernable writing ability or comic timing. If I could I would give this film a negative rating

The scariest thing about this film is that it is apparently better than Little Nicky which is hard to imagine. 0 out of 5
