Don't bother. It is homophobic and trite. Of course the gay guy did it, right?

Kinda Boring
13 May 2021
Characters are all neurotic which you'd think would make things more interesting but it still drags on with no real scares. Everyone is mysterious to the point where I can't feel invested in any one character.

Can't believe I found this webpage...
27 March 2007
I feel like I have some uber-rare disease that no one has heard of and I have finally come across a support group on the net! I finally found this title by asking for an answer on an "experts" site on the web. I too, saw this movie in my youth and was struck by the atmosphere and especially the ending. I have never forgotten it and have never seen it since. No one I know saw the film and I had almost given up on ever finding it's title. Alas, even knowing the name, I shall probably never see the film again as it is impossible to find commercially. Small steps...

Great Ghost Story - the Definition of Atmospheric
25 May 2005
If you like a good ghost story, see this film. It has suspense, mystery, good character development, atmospheric settings, it has it all. George C. Scott is not one of my favorite actors. Or should I say, "over-actors"? Well, anyway, his work in this film is admirable. You're almost never distracted by that sour look on his face and the question of how he ever got into films in the first place. This is of course a screenplay and is reflected in the depth of the story. I will have to read the book to see if I like it as well.

"Changeling" is what a ghost story is supposed to be. Spooky. It is not the obligatory gore of the horror stories of late. The violence is real. The feeling of danger is a 'prescence' that lingers over your shoulder, felt but unseen.

Excellent on many levels.
25 May 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this movie! And I am not easy to please. I watched it once, and I thought, "Well, that was good. But I guess it was just someone's descent into madness". Then I watched it again and realized, "Oh, it is a GHOST story...". So I watched it again and realized it worked on both levels, as well as a few more. It was mysterious, but it was explainable. It was real (as in "it could happen"), but it was spooky. The ghost story part of the whole thing is sublime. You have to really pay attention to follow it. The madness aspect was convincing, and a bit overwhelming. You end up sitting and trying to put it all together as a whole for some time after you see it and maybe see it again...
