Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)

Good, Entertaining, Epic... but not that great...

OK, I have read the Scott Pilgrim books, I love them, they have a ton of heart and a lot to offer. I read the books because i saw that Edgar Wright was directing this, and I loved some of his other films, (Shaun, Hot Fuzz) I really thought he could make this work.

For the first half of the movie the story stays surprisingly close to the books. I was very hopeful, however soon after the eternal sadness the movie started to drift, and the battles became closer together, leaving us no time to appreciate what Scott is fighting for. He loves Ramona, which is what the entire series is about. In the movie we seem to loose track of that.

This movie has little heart and thats the biggest complaint I have. The movie is hilarious and the fight scenes are great, the characters just aren't developed enough for me to care.

Overall go see this movie. It is worth it. But then afterwards go out and read the books. They're much better. Much funnier. and have so much more heart than the movie.

Alice in Wonderland (I) (2010)

Nothing Wonderful

Adding a little bit of a background story and a few more characters to Alice's adventures didn't do as much as i thought it would for the story. Truthfully i wanted to love this movie, I'm a huge Tim Burton/ Johnny Depp fan. But this just didn't do it for me. I came out of the theater wondering if it were just the mediocre script or the director who had failed to meet my expectations. The best part of this movie is probably Johnny Depps portrayal of the mad hatter who truly is mad. However, Mia Wasikowska presents Alice in a dull manner that had me checking my watch every ten or fifteen minutes. Overall this film isn't awful, but at the same time its no masterpiece, for an interesting film to look at I suppose this would be an alright choice, however if you want a great story and compelling acting, you might want to check out something else, because this isn't the movie you're looking for.

I had nothing to do today when i went to go see this movie, i figured hey what the hell? so i went to go see this movie. I had done research on this film and discovered for myself that the "archive footage" was not real. I figured id get a few good jumps out of it and that would be it. Boy was i wrong. The film starts off kind of slow, and of course the people are hesitant to say that aliens are actually abducting people. And then the film explodes with a couple of bullets. There is only one point where i would have actually considered the films validity, those whom have seen the film would agree i assume. This film is severely underrated. I would greatly advise you all to give this film a chance. It is worth the ten bucks you will spend on this movie.

So don't waste your time with this movie, its basically a montage of a man standing on different street-corners and then eventually sitting in a house. I truthfully looked for the symbolism in this six minute video but found none. I think that the filmmaker wanted us to be scared by a man in a creepy mask... doing nothing... at all. Overall i think that this film could have been done in a single night by a bunch of bored kids with nothing better to do... which in all reality was probably what it was that inspired this film. I would have to say if you cant make a better film than that with a really small budget i would just stop trying now...

Away We Go (2009)

A Beautiful Film

...Somewhat spoilers... This is simply put one of the most beautiful films i have ever seen. I walked out of this movie with a smile on my face and a heart eager to fall in love as deeply as they did. The film begins with a pregnant couple and ends with a pregnant couple. The couple themselves grow in love while going through vastly different couples way of looking at love and parenting. This film reminded me of why if fell in love with movies in the first place. The movie has a general feel like juno, a few tearjerking moments, and a couple laugh out loud moments, and a ton of touching moments. When i saw this movie everyone laughed at the right time and everyone cried at the right times. The entire audience loved this movie and so did i. I Highly recommend this movie.
