Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II (2010)
Just Rent It.
This is possibly the shortest game I've ever played, I slammed through the campaign on Normal within five or six hours. The story doesn't exactly go anywhere, depending on the ending you... choose (light or dark). You only play on two different planets, but the final mission has a nice touch (Kamino Orbit anyone?). The combat is this game's saving grace, as well as the amazingly done cut scenes. You can no longer just slice and force push your way through enemies, you actually have to use strategy when dealing with AT-ST's and the new battle bots.
As for the endings, I did both. Personally I prefer the Light Side (mainly cause I'm a sucker for such happy endings. And the Light Side deals just that) but the Dark Side ending is very cool as well and actually moves the story a bit further, showing the truth of the "Am I A Clone" question. Either way, expect a Force Unleashed III within the next couple years (LucasArts has confirmed it anyway).
It's a renter... I only bought it because I have the first one and I'm one of those types that likes to have the collection of game series I like (for example I still have EVERY SINGLE Halo game and both Gears Games, as well as all the Battlefield games available for 360)
Avatar (2009)
I'll give this movie credit where it's due....
The CGI engine they used was phenomenal. It was great, although I thought it looked a bit too cartoonish (for my taste). The action in it was suspenseful and climactic (as usual for the great James Cameron) and the actors brought their A-Game through out the film.
But... I still can't say this movie is the greatest of all time. Usually when I look at a movie for greatness I ignore the flashy effects and focus on the story and acting. As said before, to me the effects were cartoon-like, but the acting was great... but there's just one thing this movie had that killed it for me. The story.
It was too predictable and cliché... as said before... it was Dances With Wolves meets Star Wars (or some space drama).
I have to honestly say, this movie is among the worst James Cameron films I've personally seen. The story was boring and cliché. But, the numbers don't lie... this movie got the money it did for the flashy effects, and let's face it, the whole 3D fad helped a lot with it.
At first... I absolutely hated this movie. I saw it in 3D on opening weekend. Walking out, I bad-mouthed it the entire way home. Saying it was an over rated piece of *beep* that doesn't deserve what it got. But, I recently re-watched it, and here's my new take.
Everything mentioned before about the CGI and the acting and the story still stands. But something came to mind that I forgot that opening weekend... James Cameron, being the great director and writer he is, developed Pandora from the ground up. Almost everything in Avatar was completely original (is anyone going to argue the fact that the gunships they use in Avatar are WAY too similar to the Vultures in Halo Wars?). So that is something I will add to the pros list of this movie.
Pros: Great acting, mind-blowing effects (although cartoonish!) and a completely original world complete with monsters and aliens.
Cons: Cartoon-like effects (although mind blowing!), crappy story and way too over-hyped (although not as bad as that piece of *beep* Twilight story).
This is my opinion, you may flame me if you want. But please, take my points in to consideration.
BILLY MAYS HERE WITH ANOTHER GREAT POST!
Jurassic Park (1993)
Best Crichton Novel and Best Spielberg Movie
Between the directing greatness of Steven Spielberg and the writing brilliance of Michael Crichton, this movie is a 10/10 in my book. I've always been a fan of the book, which is still better than the movie (but don't get me wrong, the movie is excellent in the least), as it has suspense and action on every page. Steven Spielberg did an excellent job at adapting the hit book to this movie masterpiece. Yes, there were a few things that were left out. Things that were key to the story in the book and things that would have been amazing to see. But even with the key pieces left out, Steven Spielberg and his team did a great job of explaining the events in a different way.
This is a MUST see for all movie lovers, dinolovers, thrill seekers and any fan of sci-fi/thriller/suspense.. hell, any movie genre really. This movie has influenced my decision to become a filmmaker. And I hope you all have a great experience with this movie as well.
