Count Arthur Strong (2013)
Flawed, but has its moments
I'm a big fan of Linehan and I have enjoyed all of his work thus far. That said, I have not been a big fan of the radio series, and was slightly apprehensive when I heard of Linehan doing a series based on it.
The radio show itself has garnered polarized responses from audiences, so you very well know that it's not going to get any better with the TV series.
What works: 1. Delaney's very good with his mannerisms and I thought the character translated quite well into TV. 2. The gags which are classic Linehan moments (Jack the Ripper tour gag, Arthur as Dr. Two etc.) are excellent. Those alone salvage the show from being a poor one.
What doesn't work: 1. Rory Kinnear as Michael - such a needless and irritating character. I really like Kinnear, but not in this role. A total miscast, if the character was necessary at all. 2. The pathos - they're all downright terrible. The one involving Eggy especially was unbelievably bad. 3. Over explanation of some gags - especially by Michael, is such a fun killer.
Overall: Not great, and not Linehan's best, but still very Watchable and has a few flashes of brilliance. But seeing how the series has ended, and given that it has been recommissioned, I hope he rectifies these flaws and does a much, much better job with the second series.
Up the Women (2013)
Makings of a top quality sitcom..
It did take it's time to warm up - but so far I've been very impressed with the performance and writing. First episode takes it time to build the environment and the from the 2nd episode, it just kicks on. The language is spot on and the writing from Hynes is damn good and I can see it getting better as series progresses. The only complaint I have is with the overtly sexual nan character, which gets on your nerves a bit. Other than that, this sitcom is highly enjoyable, despite being slow paced. The performances itself makes it worth a watch.
Glad to see a good sitcom after quite a while now - even if it doesn't make you laugh-out-loud, it's much better than most of the crap that's been dished out in Britcom circles these days.
Don (2006)
Watch it
The movie is a slick action flick. Well the old don was clichéd, and just good performance by Big B was the only thing that made it watchable. I hate how critics trashed this film calling old don a classic. Gimme a break. And if you watch closely, nothing is much changed, it's not coz farhan was too lazy to change the script, it's his interpretation of the clichéd story. Just watch the movie once more after you saw the film, and you'll understand how well it is directed by farhan. SRK as the don is cool but the vijay role was over his head. Priyanka is good. Boman is excellent. Arjun is decent. Must watch, you won't be disappointed unless you are just watching to make wortheless comparisons between the two.
a 7.5/10 from me and a very good attempt by farhan! Waiting for Don 2.
