Halo (2022)
A good story well ruined
I've been waiting nine years for this series, that had everything already written for it. I mean everything, every aspect of every character, every piece of history in the timeline and still they manage to sink millions into a single episode just to crap on something so beautifully brilliant of a story. Just how? Was it too long in production or was it out of pure greed to imagine this would be a clever and an original approach to something they clearly had no idea about? I really don't know. I mean I want to but at the same time I like to think this never happened. Much like the new Star Wars movies. It's an experience you just want to forget and move into something else as soon as possible.
The series had so many loopholes, directing mistakes, just outright dumb dialogue and not to even mention the side stories that felt completely irrelevant to a year that had so many more interesting events in the original story of the year 2552. Oh and did I mention the directing mistakes? Yeah so apparently Spartans have no situational awareness. Or if they do they are so easily distracted they could be some regular privates. Also they can't shoot. Soren had a clear line of shot to shoot someone in the back but missed several times, also he felt it would be tactically very useful to pick a revolver and even to shoot that thing sideways like a true OG gangster does. Also for some reason John can't handle weapons properly either. I won't even start with how stupid a love story sounds like when talking about John. I'm too tired of this to even list everything that went wrong with this series. The list would be so long it wouldn't fit here.
Cortana was the single good thing about the whole piece of garbage. It felt authentic, but at the same time they had to screw that up too by implementing some back story that was never ever in the original story. Also, even tried to used the words when Cortana was first felt consciousness as a backdoor to something even remotely canon. I mean come on. And they just had to remove everything about John in the process. His combat and tactical expertise, his persona, everything gone in a flash just because they couldn't go with what Cortana was always about.
All I want to say that I would be very happy to see this misery end here and to be forgotten. There is nothing to be saved when you're neck deep in the turd these guys made.
2/10 because of Cortana. Nothing else was even remotely enjoyable.
On the Count of Three (2021)
Get the most of it if you can relate
I was honestly troubled at first to watch this just because it might trigger me to suicidal thinking. I have some experiences I rather not get back to but to be honest this one actually helped me and became an enjoyable experience.
I really appreciate the fact that the actors were very genuine. They clearly could relate to their roles and owned their written history. The dynamic of the two worked very well and to the end it almost caught me off guard. It was expected but after remembering the words "I almost felt relieved" or something like that, it felt like a fitting end to it all.
Life isn't always something so mushy mushy you can fix in one day. This really summarized it very well. If it would have ended any different, it would have taken a very clever turn to all the events in it. It might have been better, but honestly if you want to make a point this was just perfect.
9/10 might be overrated but this one surely hit the spot for me.
Gisaengchung (2019)
Way overrated
I came to watch the movie with great expectations. What can i expect from an oscar winner right? Well oh boy was I wrong. Parasite doesn't really shine on any of the areas that make a movie great. Plot, relatable actors, authenticity, dialogue, directing are just mediocre. One thing that was on par with perfect though was the screenplay. Each scene had a exact idea of what to cover and how to do it. It went superb with the plot that by all standards was very very slow and predictable.
If you're looking for something unforgettable, don't pick this movie. It surely is one to be forgotten and one that doesn't excite, bring joy or happiness.
One word review: meh.
Alex Rider (2020)
Way way way overrated
Alex Rider brings nothing new to the table with it. The plot in each season is barely exciting, very predictable and just utter garbage. You can predict what happens in a matter of seconds when you get in the series, which itself is quite incredible I must say. The first season was "alright" with all its flaws, but when you get into the second one it all comes down like a demolition site. Acting gets even worse, the plot gets unbearable and the directing even worse. Drones that can't hover, people missing shots on point blank range, predictability goes up by tenfold and oh the mistakes they made to be even somewhat credible.
The screenplay in each episode is decent, but lacks the authenticity of the actors and dialogue. There are plenty of directing fails that show the series was on thin ice when it comes to that. You get to shrug your head in every episode. But if you toggle your head off and somehow get to lie to yourself that this really is good, it might be enjoyable to some.
After squid game and marvel series', this one truly surprised me how bad some cinema can be.
Wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Maybe a ten year old, but most likely not even that.
Hanna (2019)
Better than most
Seasons 1 & 2 were excellent which were on par with some of the best action series I've watched to this date. Plot holes were marginal and the screenplays were very good with some real talents behind the cameras. The actors pull through with extreme authenticity to their characters and the dialogue doesn't get dull very often. Oh, and the soundtrack is very very good!
Although this definitely is worth the watch, be ready for the series to get very over the top with some slippery slopes taken on season 3. Killing animals, children and mothers is very excessive, grotesque and dare I say stupid and poor sense of making something "thrilling".
Great series nevertheless. Wouldn't watch again though.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
Yet another bad example
A movie with excessive use of CGI and no plot what so ever. A horrible piece which requires you to disable all brain activity to enjoy with some mediocre acting and horrible dialogue. Do approach with danger because this one is about to waste your time.
Wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Will forget about he whole piece the next day and yet again ponder what on earth people are into these days, and why something like this even exists.
Army of Thieves (2021)
Why did this movie even happen
The connection to the movie "Army of the Dead" seems to be the only thing keeping this thing afloat. The reality of it is that it is very far fetched and the idea behind this one seems to be one straight out of a coffee table conversation more than an original movie idea.
"Army of Thieves" was a complete waste of time, with hardly any fun or interesting scenes nor good characters. Dialogue was very poorly written which felt like a headache. Screenplay was the only thing that was good about this movie, some scenes were quite nicely stitched together to represent a movie in which someone spent some money on.
Maybe someone thought this could make a few extra bucks on the box office but this is just another continuation (prequel in this case) to a good movie, which should have never been done.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
No. Just no.
There isn't much to tell about this one. Dialogue and screenplay were beyond horrible, something that would be considered poor even in an 10 dollar indie movie. Actors pulled through as good as they could have but due to the circumstances of horrible writing the outcome was beyond saving. I think I never want to see anything this director has or will do in the future. I'd recommend him to consider staying as an actor because this did wrong to the actors and the rest of the crew that came up with this rubbish.
The story, oh yes. What story? It made no sense right from the beginning and ended as obviously as one might think. Especially after previous Venom movie, this felt like someone just wanted to take a big dump on it.
Venom had a couple of good lines, but unfortunately that's about it when talking about the good stuff in this flick.
I wish I hadn't wasted my time on this.
Foundation (2021)
Too early to review, but I love it
Every episode has a meaning which unfold towards the end. The story amazes in it's complexity. Episode by episode there seems to be more and more to cover and it expands in an elegant way for the viewer. The characters have their own identity, and act on it with superb expertise. Haven't read the books which obviously cover much more than the series, which is obvious. I do have some of them and I will very likely read after watching this.
Don't really care about what others have to say about this series as in my mind it is very intriguing, unique and surprising that many other sci-fi series lack. If you're in for boring action, poor acting, lack of any story and thrills, go watch something else. Please.
The screenplays and the CGI are superb. The world seems very authentic as it unveils bit by bit. There seems to be no plot holes, no mistakes in the screenplay which is amazing in sci-fi.
Would recommend. Maybe not for everyone. Will watch again and not forget it.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Very surprised, amazed even
I was expecting something mediocre, something that would easily be forgotten. Oh boy was I wrong though, "The Queen's Gambit" is far from that. The plot and the pace of it is done with excellent screenplay, episodes are meaningfully balanced to surprise and to keep the fun in a dramatic yet fun way. The acting is nothing but superb and the actors act with extreme authenticity to their characters making the series' story genuine. And quite frankly I'm speechless after watching the last episode.
I got the chills, the laughs and the thrills all in one package. Bravo.
Would highly recommend. 10/10.
Copshop (2021)
Not horrible but not that great either
A very promising start with a sense of 70s twist to it. The plot came out good, but the execution of it lacked a good screenplay. There were bunch of mistakes made that raised the question that "what on earth was the director thinking". Actors pulled through with some authenticity, which vanished around half way through the movie. There was some idea to it, but sadly it came out as something to be forgotten.
Wouldn't recommend if you have something else to watch.
For All Mankind (2019)
A masterpiece
How to start depicting something this amazing. Quite frankly I'm left speechless after watching the whole series. Every episode has a reason, not one episode has a feeling of a "filler". The whole plot with the screenplay gives the viewer a perfect sense of what is going on without raising questions. You get the feeling of intense authenticity with each character, as each of their backgrounds are in themselves stories within the series. Oh and the acting. You are left to wonder how many candidates they began with as the ones in the series fit the role with intense immersion. Cinematography, the props and the CGI used are pure S-class and some of the best I've seen.
Oh and the plot. The fiction behind real life history and the choices made that have an effect in the progression of the story are just so interesting, intriguing and realistic. At times it almost feels like you are watching a historical document that was filmed in real time. And if you're guessing if it is predictable? Guess again.
Would highly recommend. Will watch again several times. 10/10.
Ojing-eo geim (2021)
Worst series I've seen in a loooong long time
What could I say about this overly budgeted piece of horrid excuse of a series. The story isn't very original, the plot and dialogue are very dull, boring and just bad. The most thrilling part of an episode is when it ends. The characters are unoriginal and poorly acted. I could go on but I will not be tearing my eyes out anymore and waste another thought with this.
If someone can enjoy this I would like to know what it is that makes this even barely something to waste time on. If there's something good about this it is the cinematography. Some scenes were well shot and granted the feeling of some of it being real. Although when the props were involved, that "joy" faded away faster than it began and made it impossible to ever feel immersed to the world.
Unwatchable. Wouldn't recommend.
Amazing Stories (2020)
Amazing indeed
The signature of Spielberg does show in each episode. The cinematography is straight out of a highly budgeted Hollywood film, screenplays are well thought out and the dialogue and characters have their very own and authentic personalities which are a joy to watch. Every episode progress in a manner that is easily enjoyable and never gets boring.
Would recommend. Maybe even watch again. Did binge.
Just Beyond (2021)
Quite the joy
Much like "Amazing stories" miniseries by apple, "Just Beyond" hits a different kind of an audience and has some takes that can be critically viewed but at the same time be easily related to. The dialogue is fluent and the characters feel authentic, even though some traits are pretty pronounced. Acting is quite good and the screenplay in each episode is pretty solid. Especially after watching what Squid Game had to offer in it's unwatchable screenplay, story and dialogue. The stories were kept short, which at first bothered me but short stories can't really make into full +40 min episodes. Is it thrilling? Could be more. Is it unique? Somewhat. Is it a joy to watch? I'd say so.
The points made were and will be something that hit today's ideologies and worldviews and will divide a lot of the audience. Nevertheless I think the younger and older audiences will find something to relate to. Boycotting Disney, feeling that viewers are being "manipulated" by "leftist" propaganda, having a different political agenda and quite simply feeling offended will make a critically bad response happen after watching the first episode. I find it quite hilarious though how butthurt something so small can affect an opinion when trying to keep a review objective.
Would recommend. Maybe not watch again. Did binge.
