The Punisher (2004)
8/10
Great revenge movie
24 April 2004
The Punisher

Thomas Jane, John Travolta, James Carpinello, Rebecca Romaijn-Stamos, Laura Harring, Will Patton, Ben Foster. Directed & Written by Jonathan Hensleigh.

The Punisher is one of many revenge movies to come out in recent weeks. I can say without a doubt, it was everything I expected. Frank Castle (Thomas Jane) is an FBI Agent who just goes into retirement after an arms bust, in which a young man is killed. This young man's father, Howard Saint (John Travolta), goes out to get the man who did this to him, Frank Castle.

Castle's entire family is murdered, including his wife and child. He himself is shot several times and set on a dock and lit on fire. He somehow survives, and goes after everyone who did this to him.

The Punisher is a non-stop thrill ride of violence. There are new and spectacular ways of killing people. The action was very intense and well done. The acting was better than I expected, especially from John Travolta. Besides the action, there was also good plot development. Castle making friends with the people who live in the apartment is also good.

Some of the action was unrealistic, which is expected. This is Hollywood; what can you expect? All in all, this is definitely the best revenge movie I have seen in a long time. 8 out of 10.

Hellboy (2004)
8/10
good old fashion ass kicking fun
4 April 2004
hellboy was fantastic.

the acting was great by all parties

special effects were a little heavily used, but they were very good.

storyline was good, although weak at times.

makeup and costumes were amazing. especially abe sapien.

the humor was also a nice touch. i thought it was funny how hellboy had a thing for kittens.

i also found it funny how he would curse and yell at the person he was fighting.

Just alright

Could've been a lot funnier. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson make a good team, although my expectations were a little high for the movie when I walked in.

In my opinion, there wasn't enough funny. There was really nothing to the movie. While the funny parts were very funny, there wasn't enough to them. It was almost like watching the TV show itself.

I did enjoy the movie, as Snoop Dogg always makes me laugh. And their car is so amazing, it made me want to go out and buy a Grand Turino.

I hope Todd Phillips keeps making good movies.

Hilarious

What a great movie. All the things that pop out at you that make you jump out of your seat are just great.

All the guys from Super Troopers are in different roles from the previous movie.

The guy who played Farve is hilarious in this movie, but he isn't anything like Farve. He is cool, suave, and smart.

Brittney Daniel is a great addition to the cast, as is Bill Paxton. Bill Paxton makes this movie.

Also, Bill Paxton's bodyguard is hilarious. The way he talks is priceless.

Gory, humor, and nudity. Broken Lizard does it again.

Great Sandler movie, but there's something different
21 February 2004
Adam Sandler is back in full form with 50 First Dates. The slapstick humor, the gross-out laughs of Ula, it's all great.

There are some parts where you feel Lucy's pain and Sandler's angst towards getting her to like him every day. It's different from his other movies like "Anger Management".

A really funny movie. I'd definitely recommend it.

Pretty funny

Another good time movie that leaves you feeling better than when you came in.

Ice Cube's cousin was definitely the funniest part of the movie.

Funny and good for a laugh.

Pretty bad
1 February 2004
Billy Zane is the only thing that makes this movie worth watching. Everything else is just really bad.

They are going for pure gore in this movie, and it doesn't exactly work out.

Terrible movie from the usually cool "Tales From The Crypt".

An emotional masterpiece

This was a great show. Solid storyline and great acting from the whole cast.

Tim Burton scores again with a story that is a wonderful blend of both comedy and drama.

One of the best dramatic movies I have seen in a long time. 10 out of 10.

This movie was pretty funny. It was good for a cheap laugh. Anthony Anderson was definitely the funniest part of this movie.

There was a good blend of family values and comedic fart jokes.

Overall, this was a pretty good movie.

The Recruit (2003)

Mildly thrilling thriller
4 January 2004
This movie was a bit of a let-down, mainly because of the slow moving plot.

Al Pacino was very good. The twists in the plot were well played out, but, sadly, it didn't move fast enough.

Needed more action, and less development on the romance between James and Leyla.

Very funny movie.

This movie is a great comedy romp. I couldn't believe my eyes when it was based on a comic book! I thought all comic books were very serious. The highlight of the show is by far Hank Azaria as The Blue Raja. Excellent British accent. It is reminiscint of many of his characters on 'The Simpsons'. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who is tired of all the comic book movies out right now, because this one is one you don't want to miss. *** out of *****

Greatest movie ever...
18 December 2003
...is all I can say. If I were to describe what was great about this movie, my review would be 100 pages long. This movie was the greatest movie I have ever seen in my life. I don't think anything will be able to top it. 10 out of 10.

The Last Samurai
30 November 2003
The Last Samurai

**** out ****

Starring Tom Cruise, Ken Watanabe, Hiroyuki Sanada. Directed by Edward Zwick.

I always thought this movie looked great. When I first saw the trailer, I thought to myself, "I have to see this movie". I saw a sneak preview last night, and I have to say, it completely blew me away.

The drama of this movie was more than I could handle. The way the samurai fought, the way they would never give up until the very death, and the way they loved life. This movie amazed me from start to finish. It starts off a little slow, but this allows you to see the development of Tom Cruise's and Ken Watanabe's characters.

The action sequences were very well done. Since there was little CGI involved in this picture, it gave you a very real feel to the battles. They were very gritty, brutal scenes. It really hit you hard when the samurai were being shot with those weapons.

In closing, The Last Samurai should be an Oscar contender for next year, and I will remember it as one of the greatest movies I have ever seen.

Wow
7 November 2003
This was an amazing movie. The plot was weaker than I expected, however. The plot for "Reloaded" and the original "Matrix" was quite a bit better, but this movie made up for it in the action sequences and fights. The intensity and the feeling you got from those action sequences just blew me apart and put me back together again. This was an amazing movie, and I'm seeing it again. **** out of ****

One 'total' movie
1 November 2003
This was a very cool movie. The special effects must have been spectacular for the time. The plot was very rich, with many twists and turns in the story. I enjoyed myself quite a bit. Big, bad fun from Arnold Schwarzenegger. 8 out of 10.

I loved this movie. This movie was a gag a minute, and I could not stop laughing. It was so retarded, but you just couldn't help but double over with laughter. The acting wasn't even that bad, considering that there was no plot. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone. 9/10.

Very good action movie. *SPOILERS*
14 September 2003
Warning: Spoilers
I thought the action scenes were very well done. The plot was very strong, although a bit confusing at points. It was all very well explained. Johnny Depp once again proves that he can do anything. He adds that touch of humour to a quite dramatic scene. Also, his gunslinging heroic moment near the end after he gets his eyes cut out was very impressive. The only problem was that Salma Hayek was included as one of the main characters, but she was only in some of the flashbacks because she died. I thought that this wasn't the best idea to kill off one of the main characters. I thought El Mariachi's friends in "Desperado" were cooler as well. Not as good as "Desperado", but comes very close. 8 out of 10.

A Man Apart (2003)
5/10
Mild action movie, with gory deaths.
14 September 2003
The plot of this movie was very weak, and I found myself bored at some parts. Also, they tried to mask over the stale and dry plot with gory battle scenes and images of people brutally tortured and murdered. They really went over the top when Sean and his friend went into the house to find the three dead men, one with his tongue pulled out through his throat, the other with his back entirely carved up, and the other....well, I didn't really know. The action sequences were well done, however. The acting was also very weak again from Vin Diesel, not being a big fan of his. Too much bloody violence. I suppose that with all the problems this film had, I shouldn't have expected much. 5 out of 10.

Silent Hill 3 (2003 Video Game)
Truly, a terrifying game.
25 August 2003
I rented this game and played it at my friend's house yesterday. This is a very well done game. Maybe because it was so dark that the game seemed extra freaky, but when you enter the small rooms and it is so dark, and so silent...I am just on the edge of my seat, waiting for something to just pop out.

The graphics, while not being as good as "Final Fantasy X's", were very realistic, especially the shadows of the creatures and the girl. The monsters were also very well done; their movements smooth and agile. This game is truly one of the best horror adventures I have seen in a long time. 9/10.

Pretty entertaining.
22 August 2003
It was a fun movie to watch. Good ol' Jackie Chan stunts. I felt that some of the CGI stunts could've been taken out of the movie. They were very fake looking and probably weren't necessary. But Jackie Chan can still make me laugh. I also enjoy the way they incorporate comedy into the action. Good entertainment.

A fun movie.
19 August 2003
This was a great time. The songs in this really got my blood flowing. It portrayed well the racy, liquor and jazz filled times of the 1930s Chicago. The action was well done by Renee Zellwegger and I especially enjoyed Queen Latifah's musical number. A storyline that everyone can enjoy and songs that will have you humming for days.

Pretty good movie
19 August 2003
This was a fine movie. Well done action sequences, with a well thought out storyline. While it was a very good action flick, there was nothing that jumped out and grabbed me. The acting was also very well done; that was the one thing I feared about this movie, that it would be ruined by poor acting.

Just as funny as the others
1 August 2003
This was a hilarious movie. It stays true to the first two, it was just so funny. Jim was getting into all kinds of trouble, just like in the first two. He couldn't keep it in his pants in the first one with Nadia, he glued a porno tape to himself in the second, and in this one, he shaves himself and people choke on his hairs. Gross out humour is once again hilarious, and I was pleased with this movie. 3 out of 4.

Terrible, just terrible *SPOILERS*
30 July 2003
Warning: Spoilers
When I went into "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life", I really wasn't expecting much. It had a handful of little known stars, and the only reason I was going to see it was because of Angelina Jolie. Well, I don't even believe it was worth it.

I got in for free, and I began regretting using my free pass ten minutes into the movie. The special effects were really, nothing special. The stunts were lame and overused. Angelina Jolie's stuntman, being a man, was obviously doing all the work during the motorcycle stunt, which was itself, another pointless addition to a bad movie.

The acting by Terry, the prisoner Lara got out of jail to help her, was appalling. I found myself rolling my eyes whenever he talked. He couldn't shut up for some reason. I thought I might have some relief when Lara ditched him on the boat, but no, he has to go, try to take the box, and then get shot.

And the guns. Oh yes, the movie guns. Where the bad guys can never seem to hit the good guys, not even skim them. Of course not, then where would the movie be? And the fight scenes. When a woman takes a good shot to the face from a man twice her size, the woman usually goes down. But that would be sexist!

Next on the list, Lara Croft 3: The Attack of the Bad Sequel. * out of ****

A great summer action flick
23 July 2003
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was a hell of a lot of fun to watch. The action sequences were really well done, and there was tons of them. It was a lot more violent than the first one as I noticed. I thought the scene with all the cadavers was really unnecessary. It was kind of gross. And the chemistry between Will Smith and Martin Lawrence is great. The arguments really reflect from the first one. I was really enjoying the tense scenes where the cars were flying off the truck. A great movie. 8 out of 10.
