Gojira -1.0 (2023)
Incredible movie
The story was so engaging that I cared less and less about seeing Godzilla. Koichi' story of guilt to redemption was great. But when Godzilla was there, he was never better. The scene of him swimming behind the boat in HD on a 72' inch screen was about as creepy a scene as I've watched in any horror movie. Just terrifying. Maybe more so for me because I'm not a fan of the open water.
Toho's version of a Godzilla vs Kong would be more entertaining (and better) than the mess that is The MonsterVerse that Warner Brothers is putting out. Clearly more are to be made. I'm not the biggest Godzilla fan, but if they can add to this why would I not be.
You'll Never Find Me (2023)
What a waste of time
Nothing at all happens for over an hour. The movie is trying to keep your interest with the interaction of the 2 characters. Their acting, the "poetic" writing with them being coy, along with the darkness and mood of the music, does nothing to make this interesting. After it picks up, it actually gets worse. I assume the writer wants to be vague on purpose, leave bread crumbs so you can figure it out, to stimulate conversation and debate. All she does is make a bad move worse.
Movies like this make me wonder how it gets done. If stuff like this can make it to the screen, then I should've written movies a long time ago.
Kingdom (2019)
The best "zombie" show ever made
Hollywood has never made anything close to the level of this. Everything about this series was top-notch excellent. There were a few things that made me scratch my head, but what show doesn't do that. Korean cinema always manages to make me say, "I didn't see that coming". This show was far superior to Walking Dead.
Excellent story, a few twists, zombie gore, superb acting, good suspense, and extraordinary cinematography. It's a very well-balanced show. The follow-up prequel movie to the series explained a few things. The story is open to continue on, and I am looking forward to another season.
6ixtynin9: The Series (2023)
This woman's apartment is the center of the universe.
Interesting story, but I have no idea what genre it was trying to be. Action, crime, comedy, horror, and psychological warfare were all elements. Too many contrived things happen to cause her apartment to be the center of the story, though it was extremely hilarious.
I had a hard time grasping the protagonist's demeanour. She seemed like a nice girl that became desperate and got way over her head, or she was crazy to begin with and decided to go with the flow.
The ending causes me to take some stars away. You create all this drama, but you don't know how to conclude it. I guess it's just easier to not think through it and leave a bogus ending.
The Last of Us (2023)
I simply can't deal with the shaky cam
Not sure why this is a must in so many movies/shows. It's absolutely nauseating, and brings NOTHING of worth to the viewing. Perhaps I can watch it on my cell phone instead of a 72-inch TV.
I recently played these games and was impressed with the story-telling. It's engrossing and realistic. I found myself hating it to be over, sorta like when you read a good book. I did manage to watch the 1st episode. There were subtle differences, but nothing was lost in the original narrative. The 2nd episode almost made me chuck everything I had eaten that day. I'm sorry I'll be missing out on this series. Very upsetting.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
I don't think so
The people on here giving this a 9 or 10 were either taking something when they were watching this, or they're being paid to write juiced-up reviews. I was so glad when this was over. Very visual, and Yeoh was excellent. But give me a break with this.
Geomgaek (2020)
Too much Shaky-Cam.
I only made it 30 minutes in before I was nauseated. Not sure what purpose this serves. Totally unnecessary.
Why Women Kill (2019)
One of the best shows I've ever seen.
If you haven't seen this, you MUST watch it. Excellent from start to finish. The only bad thing about this show was that it had to end. And the ending........wow.......
Lore (2017)
Wasn't for me
Didn't know I was getting a horror history lesson. I expected a few horror short stories, but they were more like documentaries. I will admit they were nicely educational, but "re-enacting" is not my cup of tea. IMO, they should've been done a fictional stories.
I really could've done without the narration. It was just horrible. Worth watching if you like this type of stuff.
