The Hunted (2003)
Only 5.9 for something that never was so well done.
All I can say without spoiling things : this was very interesting.
People suffering from extreme religious/other beliefs should certainly see it, it could bring them back to reality or when they are really stupid push them even further in their insanity.
Just see it, it's a cool movie and then give it 6 for being mediocre, that will prove that there's nothing wrong with you ;-) I gave it 8.
I realize this isn't actually much of a review, I just hope lots of people see it because it's way underrated.
Tommy and Benicio were great as always.
I loved it.
Orca (1977)
This is what movies are all about !!!
Noticing the low score for this movies here on IMDb, I couldn't resist writing this.
I've read all kinds of comments, most disturbing the criticism on the performance of Richard Harris. His acting considering the theme of the movie was absolutely great. I guess the image of an old washed up fisherman doesn't look to good to most people. He was great and believable. Some say it's cheap exploitation of a wild animal, though I've never seen a movie giving an animal this much soul and heart. I suppose they were confused with Jaws, which in comparison to this is a mindless monstermovie about a big fish with big teeth.
For me this film is an emotional trip to the inevitable, guided by some beautiful cinematography and brilliant soundtrack by Ennio Morricone.
A fantasy cult classic.
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
Quentin Tarantino's best movie (2009).
I didn't expect much from this film, I suppose the trailer focused too much on Brad Pitt and gave me the wrong idea, doesn't mean Brad Pitt was bad in this.
It was great and in my opinion the best film of 2009, much better than The Hurt Locker and Avatar. When you make a fictional story about Nazis's and make Hitler look like an imbecile, not the "evil" angry creature that he was, you probably can't win the best directing or best picture Oscar. Let's hope Quentin can make "a more serious movie" in the future so he finally gets rewarded for his work by the academy, though it's the lack of seriousness which makes his movies great I guess.
Noticed and read some complaints about borrowing and ripping stuff from other movies. Tarantino does it in a good way, showing stuff from foreign or forgotten movies to a wider/different audience, bringing that cinema back to life. Must admit that I was really shocked seeing scenes very identical or very recognizable sometimes, but probably these movies would have never come to my attention if QT didn't copy from them.
Inception (2010)
Good enjoyable movie, nothing more.
Like "Memento" completely overrated plot wise: like it's brilliant and stuff and all kinds of explanations and dimensions outlined by the fans. It's just about a man who's torn up by the suicide of his wife, searching his own mind for his responsibility in all this to find forgiveness and carry on with his live. The whole movie until the part where he wakes up in the plane is just a reflection of his chaotic and desperate mind dealing with the loss of his wife. And all the dream-layers and stuff is complete and utter nonsense to make a cool and fun movie. Just a lesser serious "Shutter Island".
"The Prestige" is still Christopher Nolan's best work according to me, doesn't mean Inception wasn't a good movie, but certainly not in the top 10 of all time best movies.
Wake up people.
Oké raised the score from 7 to 8, just seen it again, still think the whole dream-sharing-creating idea is full of crap, nothing genius here... but cool and fun as stated before.
Romeo Is Bleeding (1993)
One of a kind.
If you're looking for realism and seriousness don't watch it. Always complaining and whining about over-acting don't watch this. Go see Abel Ferrara's Bad Lieutenant instead if you can handle the realism in that movie at least, has a bit of over-acting too though.
Gary Oldman, Lena Olin and Roy Scheider are absolutely brilliant and super-cool in this movie.
Beautiful entertaining piece of artwork. Extremely violent and very sexy.
I've read a few negative reviews about this movie. I suppose those people can't relate to this. Maybe they never crossed a line that shouldn't be crossed and never as a result of this experienced the inescapable downward spiral leading straight to oblivion. Lucky them.
Skin (1987)
It's actually the first 'nouvelle violence' film, and it's brilliant.
As a kid I liked this film for it's specific type of violence (I must have been a horrible child). Now I think it's better than Tarantino's best.
On the surface it looks like a meaningless, stupid B-movie and most people will describe this as very bad.
I've read a comment here, saying the acting is bad, the story is bad and the film can only be seen as a comedy. The person writing that, clearly didn't understand what he was watching.
The acting is actually very good, this film isn't about a story and it's absolutely not funny, it's very dark.
Once you get it, it's brilliant.
