Letterkenny (2016)
If you grew up in a small town, you know some of the characters and you are probably one.
There is a similar show on Netflix. It's "The Ranch", with Ashton Kutcher. It's aimed at the boomers, but still a great show. It features Canadian born Elisha Ann Cuthbert. In 2013, she was elected the most "Beautiful woman of American TV." And, she's married to a real life hockey player.
Now I'm not an expert, but, at some level this show should win some awards. Specifically, the writing Reilly and Jonesy's back and forth. They remind me of Bill and Ted, from long ago.
McMurry is a one man Beavis and Butthead. Gail works her physical style. If she had someone play against, they would garner more air time. Glenn is creepy, in a weird way. The skids, well, they're skids. The fab 4 play well together.
That brings us to Bonnie McMurry. If any writer or producer wants to know what the girl next door looks like, it's Bonny McMurry.
My only negative for this show is is the sound quality. It could be much improved. Overall, this is a very good show.
The King of Staten Island (2020)
Every son that had a father. Every father that had a son.
It's not a comedy. It's one man's take on life. Hedidn't miss anything.
Yeah, PD's Dad died on 911. Steven Buscemi was a NYFD.
It's pretty obvious PD has been in pain, most of his life. I hope this movie took the edge off. I hope this isn't the last the last from PD.
Buddy Hackett, from Disney's "Love Bud", once said, if you have pain you can make things funny. There is a lot of paraphrasing here.
I think it was better than any remake or super hero drivel, that have plagued the silver screen lately.
Eddie the Eagle (2015)
It's bad enough, when you aren't good enough,....
First, Taron Egerton deserves an award for the three facial expressions of the real Eddy. The smile, happy. The upside down smile, it hasn't beaten me yet. And the I have to try harder, I am serious, every-man look.
It's bad enough, when you aren't good enough, but, when everyone tells you the unvarnished truth, you could get a little down. Or, you could set out to meet and beat every obstacle in you path. Then take a look back and smile. Face forward and say with conviction, "I am the squad."
This movie is a family show, start to finish. Age 10 to 18 would go for this movie. So, if know a normal kid, they would get a few laughs, for sure. There might be a few swear words, but so few I don't remember them. Nobody dies. There is no shooting, nor car crashes. This movie reflects most peoples day to day lives, at least those of us that don't do the Olympics.
If there were ever a parody of this film, not that it needs one, it would have to be by The Trailer Park Boys. Yeah, Bubbles.
The Final Storm (2010)
This movie should be on Lifetime.
If there is spoiler in here, I'm sorry, but, This the first movie I have ever reviewed on IMDb. IMDb is my goto place for information on movies that have been released.
I am a man. My wife picked this movie. This type of movie is what you would expect from Lifetime. Everything men do in this movie is not what men would do in real life.
This is not in order, but, that is the least of the problems.
1. The gang in the town attacks the family and no one has a gun. If there were a catastrophe like this, I would get every gun I could find and as much ammunition as I could carry. The only time you have too much is if you're on fire or you fall into deep water.
Dad's truck runs out of gas. I never forget to look at the gas gauge before I drive somewhere.
He abandons the truck when it runs out of gas and leaves the lights on.
When he gets back home, he leaves the front door ope.
Mom tells the boy to go up stairs after the barn is on fire. I think if there is a danger of fire, don't be upstairs.
Dad runs Silas off, but does not watch him go out of sight.
He finally gets a gun. A lever action. And some bullets.
These people are the least likely to survive an total catastrophe. On Lifetime this is a winner.
