Cabin Fever (2002)
Unbelievably Awesome
This movie is a classic. Hilarious, entertaining, and a little bit creepy.Perfect.
To me a horror movie has to have either incredible camp value or actually be somewhat frightening. Cabin fever actually accomplishes a ten on each scale. The character of Winston played by a guy named Giussepe Andrews, whom I haven't seen much of since this movie, is hilarious. They play on political correctness, our unhealthy fear of viruses, everything.
My only surprise from this movie is that it didn't garner a lot more attention, that it didn't get better reviews, and that the guy who played Winston didn't become a mega star afterwards. seriously, watch it just for Winston.
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
i cant believe this movie is liked.
boring and predictable. stereotypical pulling at emotional heartstrings. weak character development. unnecessarily drawn out conversations. I expect this sort of mediocre quality, and have in the past few years come to expect this of quentin terentino. once a blazing hope in the world of entertainment, he is fast approaching the GI Joe film in terms of ingenuity and complexity. I honestly believe that three is an 'emperors new clothes' mystique about terentino that makes people love his films no matter how boring and predictable they are. Pulp fiction was his last great film. Kill Bill series was tolerable. then came death proof, which made me cry tears of boredom, and now this.
terentino is officially a part of the Hollywood mediocre film manufacturers association. i suppose it was inevitable. mr. terrentino, if you are reading this, get back to your basics of strong characters, real life plausibility, and true drama.
you owe me 36 bucks, mr. terentino (i brought my wife, who fell asleep, and her girlfriend, who left early).
seriously, are all of the positive reviews because the world has become less complex, or do your fans accept even the weakest trash nowadays? i had hoped death proof was a simple error. if mr. terentino continues on this path he should just stop making films before the illusion that he is a great film maker wears off and people see him for what he truly is: out of ideas.
Filth and Wisdom (2008)
incredible film
engaging, entertaining, real. i cannot believe this movie isn't constantly rated a solid ten. the characters are complex, the humour is stellar, the style of the film is irresistible.
the main character played by eugene huts is an absolute hilarious scream, while still being an endearing, lovable personae. there is growth of character, aggressive scripting, constant action, and a feel good ending.
all of this while dealing with personalities you will relate to and love. i am a constant critic of films, i typically am bored with every movie i enter, and this mosaic of artistic beauty did not once fail to entertain myself or my equally difficult to pleas entourage.
if you have a powerful mind and a thirst for creative film making this film is for you. if you have a weak mind and prefer the pre-fab, boring plot lines and predictably flat, unreal characters Hollywood constantly churns out, go rent 'are we there yet?'
