John Wayne Parr: Blessed with Venom (2011)
inspiring
I saw this documentary at the Gold Coast premiere and was blown away. The cinema was packed and John Wayne Parr was there. He signed posters and posed for pictures for hours. The film is a look at his life and career and what an inspirational story it is. He is humble and gracious but with a fierce determination to win. We see his time in Thailand and meet his Thai mentor. We also see JWP in fight action and he is just so aggressive and courageous. There is just so much heart to this film. Funny, moments of sadness and thrilling success. I loved this film and so did the premiere audience. I also saw this film as a metaphor for life. No matter how many times it knocks you down, you get back up and keep fighting. I recommend everyone go and see it.
Man of Blood (2008)
Unbelievable action
This short film is actually several fight scenes which promote Bren Foster and Richard Norton. The film was screened in Los Angeles at the Action on Film Festival in 2009 and the two performers were nominated for awards. What an astonishing viewing experience. Bren Foster's skills are just amazing and Richard Norton shows why he is one of the greats in the genre. It is brilliantly shot and edited with some effective visual effects. There are also some terrific graphics and the sound is epic. I did want to see more which I figure was the film makers aim. One sequence that does stand out is a fight, both by hand and then gun in a confined space between Foster and Norton. Truly incredible.
The Violent (2010)
fast paced short film
I'm not always attracted to short films but was present when this film was screened to a gathering of Muay Thai fighters based on Queensland's Gold Coast. What a blast this film is. Australian fight legend John Wayne Parr stars and proceeds to kick some serious butt. He is not only awesome in the ring but out of it. It's a simple story of a simple man trying to make his way in a tough world. This film passed muster amongst the Muay Thai fighters present as they all seemed to be impressed with the action. I know I was. The film zips along and seemed to finish in rapid time. I was surprised to find out that the running time was actually twelve minutes. I could have sworn it was only three or four. Congratulations to the film makers who have turned in a stirring effort.
